Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone else happy with 3D World commercial failure?

To me, it's great to the game selling badly, because it mean Nintendo with stop with the 3D Land approach, the cat gimmick and the multiplayer based platformer and we give us back the Mario we love.

A new Galaxy, 64 or Sunshine may come to life now.

I also think it's great and if Nintendo stops with the 3D Land approach, it's even greater. I don't agree with the cat gimmick though, I felt it added fun gameplay. Of course it still didn't make up for the game though.

If the Wii U wouldn't start selling, neither would 3D World. If an eventual 64/Galaxy comes though, I think now it will sell worse than 3D World due to later in the console's life compared to 3D World which has been available in a longer time.

Then, I think the Wii U starts selling more soon. But 64/Galaxy type game I don't think will sell more than 3D World lifetime. Only if it looks mind blowing and everyone sees it.

Yep.

I'm 4 worlds in and it feels as bland as 3D Land. Also that one stage in World that revolves around blowing and touching the pad left me with a very sour taste in my mouth. I'm just not into this franchise at all. Don't get me wrong, its leagues better than NSMB, but to me a 3D Mario game should be something extra special.

and F.L.U.D.D from Sunshine wasn't a gimmick? ok dude.

Hell no, it wasn't. It had a significant, fundamental impact on how the game was played.

You're just beginning the game basically. The first 3 Worlds are basically for kids (yes, kids play Mario too) and beginners to get their bearings.

The game starts at World 4 and gets better world by world. There's not very many levels that require the touchscreen/blow mechanic either.

I did not like 3D Land and don't want Mario 3D to be as limited as a 2D game and based on multiplayer and simpliest design. I like Zelda Between World but would be pissed if Wii U Zelda was made the same way.

To me , this game should have been 3DS and we have been robbed of the true 3D Mario. That's why I like this game selling poorly. It can say "never do it anymore" to Nintendo. Galaxy's games sold great.

I didn't like 3D land either but loved 3d world....Your sounding alot like someone who hasn't actually played 3D World.

hardly. Apart from occasional shine sprites that required cleaning up dirt up or the one off boss it was a gimmick to the 3D mario series. No different than the cat suit. You could argue that the cat suit has a significant impact on how 3D world is played

I don't understand the complaint, this game plays very similar to any other 3D Mario in the core mechanics but more in tune with 2D Mario until you get the hidden character which plays exactly like the Galaxy games. The other difference is that you don't get a life bar that gets restored by coins but is instead based on power ups which is more like 2D Mario games.

What about using it to hover? It's been a while, but I could've sworn there were all sorts of jumps that couldn't be made without FLUDD.

@bolded: I very well might. I guess I'll see when I finally get my hands on the game.

I've finished World 4. My opinion is mostly unchanged. I'm just not that impressed. Comparing playing 3D World to the first time I ever put in Galaxy and 3D World just doesn't even compare. Inb4 nostalgia for 2007 game, i was pretty damn old back then.
