Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo fans, get in here to apologize for deriding New Super Mario Bros. U

"The Wii U is a piece of trash. NSMBU didn't fail, it's that the system itself is so ill-conceived that it has no long term future, regardless of what games Nintendo releases for it."

I think Nintendo got carried away with the "software sells hardware" line they trot out every week. While true to an extent, there comes a point where the hardware is just a complete lemon and software can only do so much.

It's also pretty funny they've so confidently brought out this line since January knowing how incredibly sparse the systems release schedule is.

I guess you are right, the Wii U is a piece of trash. NSMBU didn't fail, it's that the system itself is so ill-conceived that it has no long term future, regardless of what games Nintendo releases for it.

I tried to be optimistc but the console is showing no signs of life...

Wii U doomed.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

The Wii U is actually a decent system. HD graphics, semi-competent online, decent eShop, and a Super NES style controller (just with a giant touchscreen in the middle, lol) make it usable. If you're willing to play some multiplats on it (I have ACIV, BLOPS2, Arkham City), the library isn't even that bad.

It is though a giant marketing mistake ... Nintendo should have known that going in this direction was a dead end because the PS3/360 saturated the market here.

Should've ditched the gimmick controller (or bundled it instead with Nintendo Land seperately, like Wii Fit + balance board) and just made a full on next-gen system and let the 1 year head start ride. Dump the Wii name. Called it the "New Nintendo Entertainment System". Boom.

I may be wrong, but personally, I don't think it's the hardware, I don't think it's the software, I think it's 3 years of negative perception of the wiiU.

2011->wiiU is underpowered
2012->wiiU is underpowered
2013->wiiU is underpowered and has no games.

Nintendo needs to make a big push towards eliminating this bad perception. They have the games now, they have the right price, all they need is to get everyone to realize this. It won't happen overnight.

Or maybe not.

If the Wii U ends up even worse than the GC, I wonder just what they´ll do with the home console business...will there even be a traditional home console as we know them?...home console/handheld hybrid?

The Gamecube failure (it made them profit, but Nintendo themselves consider the GC a sad part of their console history) made them try a very different route, and thus the Wii was made.

If the Wii U performs like the GC, even worse or just a bit above, what´s the 9th gen like for them I wonder..

The Wii U is trash, because 3rd party games don't look good and it has no games?
I'm suddenly having a Dejavu moment here. It feels like I've heard these words before.

I'm guessing they will incororate a tablet onto the side of the system rather than the controller so one person plays with the system and the other with a traditional controller. yup i can see nintendo doing that
