As Sony plans to launch the PS4 on Japan at february, one must wonder why MS did not took the oportunity to build a install base in the country.

These almost 3 months should be enough to put like 800k - 900k Xbox One on japanese hands, because, we all know, gamers are not very patient people and would not resist to savour the next gen flavour right in front of them.

Also, this initial install base could make japanese devs to port or develop some titles for the One.

I think they lost a huge chance. What do you guys think?

Edit: as some people brought up, the Xbox 360 launched first in Japan and did not suceed, so: Yes, you guys make a good point, this thread is now (another) monument to my stupidity. Let it be, anyways, but I wonder if that means there will be no Xbox One in Japan.

800-900k in 3 months nah, I reckon it would be more around the 500k mark. Didnt 360 launch before the ps3 in japan aswell? it also had heaps of JRPGs and it still lost its lead pretty quickly

Nah. I think they should rather attempt a big push in Europe, outside of the UK. North America is dead locked anyway so that will basically come for free.

This is totaly unrealistic. Xbox 360 sold 40.000 Units at launch and 250k in the first year. Xbox one is even more americanized with (almost?) no games of importance for the japanese market.

Xbox one will FLOP hard even more than 360 in Japan. japanese people found the original xbox a huge piece of junk now the xbox one is even bigger. Just the optics do not appeal to them at all. Very few will want it especially if there is a cheaper PS4 which is also smaller and can do that vita streaming thing. Japan will play no role at all for Xbox. I bet it will sell worse than the 360 there.

That's over half of 360's life time sales in a few months...

If microsoft launched the xbox in japan this year, the numbers would have been around 100-200k "and i'm being optimistic"
