Forums - Sony Discussion - My PS4 sometimes has no audio on startup (found a way to quickly fix it)

So as the title says, sometimes when I turn my PS4 on, there will be no sound.  No menu music, no Netflix audio, nothing.  With all the talk about HDMI ports being bad I was worried.  I went online and I found that some other people had this, and they fixed it by just changing the input on their TV and then changing it back.

So I tried turning my TV off and then on again, and what do you know, it was fixed.

People who are more technically inclined:  Is this a problem with my TV (very rarely with my PS3 I'll get no audio or video) even though others have also reported it?  Is this a hardware issue with my PS4?  Is this a software issue?  Anyone else have this problem?

Speculate away!

I have this issue with my PS3... It is fixed by either resetting the audio settings or selecting the input again on my TV

In my case, I think it is caused by an HDMI splitter

this happen to my PS3 several time too, what i do is go to sound setting redo the output and will be fine, but whether is it TV HDMI input problem or not then i'm not sure since it doesn't bother me much...

I have the problem with the ps3 as well, my amp sometimes goes crazy after switching to the ps3. It keeps cycling through sound formats as if the 2 systems can't agree on what to use. Switching to another input and back always fixes it.

Probably a HDMI handshake problem. HDMI can be quite finicky, when switching back to tv my cable box sometimes complains about HDCP secure link lost for 2 seconds or so.

You guys are probably correct about the HDMI thing since this has happened with my PS3. My TV is also almost 6 years old, and I'll be getting a new one soon, I'll report back if it happens with the new one too.

Now to derail my own thread: Whats up with no friend online/offline notifications? I know it could get out of hand with the friends list expanding to 2000, but atleast give me the option Sony.

I feel like I'm complaining too much. I'll end this post by saying that Killzone is fantastic.

It happened with my ps3 as well on my first led tv a couple of times, didn't happen since
I upgraded to a new one.

Yup. It's happened with mine a couple times. Just switch inputs and it fixes itself. Probably will be taken care of with a patch.

I occasionally have this issue with my PS3. I think it's just a handshaking issue.
