Forums - Sony Discussion - Your Dualshock 4 Impressions?

Since it's out already, I picked one up on Friday to see if it was good for PC gaming... and as soon as I pressed the buttons, it was GLORIOUS! It feels really, really good, especially the triggers. The only physical thing I don't like is the share and option buttons because they are pretty hard to find by touch. I keep pressing the touchpad instead. For PS4, I can see it not being a huge deal because games will be designed with the touchpad in mind hopefully, but for older games or PC, it's not ideal. Another thing to note, it won't work plug-and-play style on PC because it uses dinput instead of the xinput that most games use these days. I had to use x360ce to emulate and remap the controller for each game I wanted to use it in, which isn't much better than just using Motioninjoy, but once I had it going in Borderlands 2, I didn't miss the precision of the keyboard and mouse as much as I did with the DS3 and X360 controller, and it definitely feels more comfortable than the DS3.

What are your impressions of the new Dualshock?

I tried the DS4 at gamescom and while it's pretty good, I like the DS3 better overall. The DS4 is just a little too big for my taste.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I am very impressed so far. Have not messed with it on an actual game yet, want to save that for the actual PS4 experience. From holding it a bunch while watching netflix I am starting to really see some awesome thing that the track pad and extra button could add. Freeing up face buttons for other things could make for some innovative new melee systems in a game like Uncharted.

The sticks are a major improvement at least in feel so far. The tension and throw is by far the most pleasing of any controller so far. The placement of the PS button is great and seems like it will be a lot less easy to accidentally hit. I think this is part of the reason that the options and share button are like they are. It should be hard to hit them by mistake.

The only thing I don't like so far are the R1, L1. R1 and L1 are to flush to the top making it easy for the tip of my finger to block me from pressing the buttons.

Have to come back and give better analysis after playing a couple of games.

I like the ps3 controller's sticks more i like the super loose convex sticks on the ds3 vs the ds4's tighter concave sticks. I like everything else about the ds4 though. It would have been the perfect controller if the ds4 used the move's triggers I am in serious love with the move's trigger.

Played a little LoU with it and it's very impressive. My only little tiny complaint is that the triggers aren't big enough but they're still improved with the outward curve now along with the convex analog sticks and improved grips. I'm surprised none of the reviewers have talked about the D-PAD. It's absolutely sick and just clicks more than the DS3's somewhat squishy one. I feel like it would be very comfy to play a whole game with that thing (I liked DS3's but there was too much of a gap in the middle for long sessions and the recession in the middle does wonders)
