Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One to be manufactured in Brazil!

And that there is why PS4 is more expensive than Xb one in Brazil, as I said in the original PS4 vs Xb one price thread. Xb one had to have some taxation advantage in order for such a huge and distorted price discrepancy. And now we know what it is.

Makes sense to help bypass the progressive taxes there that are insaine.

This is why the price differential between the PS4 and XBONE is so high. Not Sony being "Greedy".

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

Brazilian women have nice butts.

I meant the Xbox One in brazil is more expensive than the ones in other nations by far.

Sony probably only manufactured PS3's in Brazil because of taxes and not because of the efficiency of the manufacturing industry in Brazil. This is bad from a global perspective because for one it encourages similar policies by other nations, the local industry now has less reason to become more efficient to compete, foreign manufactures lose business despite being better at it and the Brazillian PS4 gamers now have to pay more because their local and less efficient industry has a monopoly.

And yes the tariffs that the USA has are harmfull to the Brazil export industry, along with many other nations, and all they do is allow for inneficient industries in local nations to aviod competing with competitive ones overseas. Brazil should be looking to reduce the barriers to manufactuing locally rather than slapping taxes on imports. But other nations can always add more sadly.

Except it isn't.  Not by far.

In Australia:  $50/$48.10 (US)
In the UK:  £80/$129.33 (US)
In the EU:  €100/$138.10 (US)
In Canada:  $100/$96.16 (US)
In the US:  $100/$100 (US)
Total difference:  $511.69 (US)

Difference in Brazil:  $833 (US)

You'd litterally have to add up the differences in all the markets Microsoft is launching* the Xbox One in to justify the price difference in Brazil, and you're still not coming close, mean while you're still getting Kinect in every box.  So even in those markets where there is a higher cost, you're getting something for the extra expense.

In Brazil gamers aren't getting anything more when they're being asked to pay $833 more for a console with fewer features.

*Note:  The Xbox One launches in both Mexico and New Zealand, however Sony is not or I can't find a price for the PS4 there.

Will they only produce for brazil or also for usa?

If Sony isn't "greedy" (I'm not saying that they are, just using your words) then why aren't they manufacturing the PS4 in Brazil like the PS3?

Microsoft entered the Brazil market first last generation (Gen7) and began assembling the console there when they did.  Sony only started assembling the PS3 earlier this fall (2013).

Both Flextronic and Foxconn, the latter Sony is using in China, have factories in Brazil.  Yet, Sony chooses to import the PS4.  If Sony is so consumer focused that they do what is in the best interest of gamers, why aren't they assembling the PS4 in Brazil?  It would be in their customer's (gamers) best interest if they did.

Likely only for Brazil.

They very likely could be used for US stock.  The challenge would be printed materials.  Manuals, boxes, etc.  They'd just have to be supplied with the originals so they could be printed.  A variable power adapter is included with the Brazil Xbox One, as the AC power ranges from 100V 60Hz to 220V 60H, and the Brazilian power plug is different.

EDIT:  In the past Microsoft has used a couple of different assemblers/manufacturers in Mexico and in the US to supplement the US market.  However, that has traditionally been early in the lifecycle of the console.  Both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 were assembled/manufactured in the US and Mexico at some point, however they were primarily manufactured in China.

Actually no, it doesn't apply yet.

I have no idea why Sony is charging so much.  They both are under the same terrifs until they are made locally.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Actually no, not yet.

Both are being imported and hit with the large taxes in imported electronics.  I have no idea why the Sony device is not only more than the Microsoft one, but nearly twice.

It is a puzzle I have yet to find the answer for.
