To the few people who asked me what my current specs are, I'm not super computer savvy.  I bought a pre built HP Pavillion and just installed my own graphics cards (two 5750's in Crossfire)  and a 850W Power Supply.

I have an Intel i7 920 @ 2.67 GHZ Processor

I have 9 GB Of Ram  (what DDR is I'm not sure I'd have to pull out the ram and find out although if the kind of RAM will make for a  possible bottlekneck I'll do it and find out).

Do you think  that a more advanced card would bottlekneck with these specs?  In addition if I do pick up a card should I wait until black friday and any other recomendations on cards between $300 - $500 that would put me at a level above a PS4?

It's funny how the poll is heavily PS4 Sided, but the comments have been majorly graphics card oriented.  Based on what I'm hearing right now, I'm still up in the air on it.  Based on the arguements it seems like a graphics card would be a better investment, I just don't want to miss out playing with some of my buds online.   Does anybody know if The Division, Destiny, or DriveClub will have crossplay between games?

Remember that this site is mainly focused on console gaming, I feel this site is mostly playstation dominant from what I've been following the past few years. Lot of people also aren't very computer savvy so naturally the choice to recommend is the console. I highly doubt any games are going to be crossplay, it's not a good idea to mix two platforms. One side usually ends up with some control scheme handicap.

I really think getting a great GPU especially AMD GPU now is a good bet, even if mantle doesn't pan out as it's expected. You would still have a very very powerful GPU for 1080p gaming. You will also have the whole PC library to play on. Consoles will just get more games as time passes by and u will ahve lot more potential games to buy for cheaper later on.

Though wish we knew what ur mobo is, would see exactly what it's capable of. I think it might have atleast PCI-E 2.0 x16 cause it comes with an i7. :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107989 this one ur setup? It comes with some same parts also would be DDR3 capable and it will come with 2x PCI-E 2.0 x16 which means crossfiring works great :)

Though having other card on a 4x/8x isnt gonna hold u back by much especially if u aren't playing on a 120hz monitor, ur not gonna even see the difference.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I bought a model very similar to that.  I custom ordered mine on HP's website through my companies corporate discount site.  But that seems to be spot on as far as specs go.  The monitor i'm using is here.   if I do get a new GPU between $300-500 and i'm sacraficing the fact I won't be able to play on my 50' TV and co-operatively with my friends (at least until I purchased a PS4 which wouldprobably be at least a year out) I want to make sure the GPU  I get is going to make my games look noticebly better then PS4 games, futureproof myself you could say.

I would recommend going for 7970 it's plenty for single screen gaming at 1080p + 60FPS with everything maxed + some MSAA on top. Should be a good match for your monitor and it definately gives you longevity as far console multiplats are concerned.

there's also the R9 280x (which is the same as 7970).
Only difference is 280x is clocked tiny bit higher so they perform 1-3FPS better in games right out of the box. But on the other hand thats a neglible gain u can easily catch up with 7970 slightly OCed.  7970 should have some price cuts going on right now as they're replacing stock with 280x so you might save some 50$ getting one, so it's great value right now. You could get a 280x to crossfire with it later on if u want even more power since they're compatible.

biggest reason to go for AMD at this point is cause of the mantle API coming at the end of the year. They allready have EA and Activision in their pocket so their games will likely run mantle.
There's also rumors going on that crytek is also in. Should expect to hear more news about other developers in november when the announcement exclusivity deal with Dice ends. All the consoles are also fully AMD so having familiar architecture on PC might pay off if you plan to play multiplats.

The console seems to be the better option for the timed releases. GTA V not being released yet for the PCs and Watch Dogs as well. The perks of console gaming are still more.

So since I've decided upgrading my GPU, I've been looking at parts to update my rig.  Considering I'm using that Pavillion  case still I plan on upgrading my case, motherboard, and GPU currently and some good 2.1 computer speakers (mine broke a week ago).  I have later plans to get a 120 hz monitor and a mechnical keyboard.

I'm currently looking at the following:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125462 a GTX 770 4GB for $389.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139010 Corsair500R White $89.99 after $20.00 MIR.

I'm having a hard time deciding on a motherboard that would be an upgrade from what I have and work with my i7.  Does anybody have any recommendations?

Also if anyone has any recomendations for 2.1 speaker systems under $150.00 I'd appreciate it :D.

So if I have a first gen i7, it won't work with most modern motherboards will it? I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1490650

That bundle ^ but my i7 wouldn't work with that would it? Anybody more savvy with computers have an answer?

After doing what you're planning to do now, it was nothing but a ball ache so get the PS4. The amount of you're planning to spend would probably better going to towards games, PS plus and a hard drive upgrade.

Can't you just use your current motherboard? or does it not have a PCI-E slot?

When you say first generation i7, do you mean something like an i7-920? Those work with socket 1366 motherboards. If you want that motherboard then no it won't work with your cpu, it's a socket 1150 one, so it will only work with the newest Haswell Intel cpus.

Also you have to make sure everything will fit in that case. Many times OEM cases like that (HP, Dell, etc.) use smaller cases and non-standard parts (power supply). That video card might not even be able to fit inside the case. I have a backup Dell Optiplex 760 computer with a small case and there's no way the AMD 7970 in my main rig would be able to fit inside the Dell.

Anyway, you'd probably be better off starting a new topic in the PC Discussion forum for more help.

I was looking at upgrading the other infastrcture such as the motherboard, but I'm not going to worry about it because I'm not interested in replacing my processor yet (yes it's an i7-920).

Also that's why I linked the case I'm going to be purchasing, as the card would not fit in my current in the current OEM Case.
