So if I have a first gen i7, it won't work with most modern motherboards will it? I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1490650

That bundle ^ but my i7 wouldn't work with that would it? Anybody more savvy with computers have an answer?

Can't you just use your current motherboard? or does it not have a PCI-E slot?

When you say first generation i7, do you mean something like an i7-920? Those work with socket 1366 motherboards. If you want that motherboard then no it won't work with your cpu, it's a socket 1150 one, so it will only work with the newest Haswell Intel cpus.

Also you have to make sure everything will fit in that case. Many times OEM cases like that (HP, Dell, etc.) use smaller cases and non-standard parts (power supply). That video card might not even be able to fit inside the case. I have a backup Dell Optiplex 760 computer with a small case and there's no way the AMD 7970 in my main rig would be able to fit inside the Dell.

Anyway, you'd probably be better off starting a new topic in the PC Discussion forum for more help.
