Forums - Gaming Discussion - JRPG Fans I Need Some Advice

Am i the only one who didnt enjoy ni no kuni at all? I mean the story and charachters were as childish as it gets..I couldnt get into it..It felt like playing a choir.. The battles were.. interesting, though i prefer final fantasy's battle system.. The final boss wasnt that difficult for me.. i lvled up everything to 99 level ,using the toko tokos..

FFXIII-2 for sure.

Ni No Kuni if you havent played it already.

If you played the 360 version of Star Ocean IV - dont get the PS3 ver otherwise if you havent at all go ahead and get the PS3 ver if that is your preference. The only difference is like the character portraits can be switched between anime and 3D - both english and japanese voices and some new OST tracks.

hey delphox :P

Where is "Ni no kuni" in your list?

Already own it and beat it, it was really good.  Kinda dissapointed Level 5's new revealed game wasn't a sequel.

Awesome. I am playing it right now. Its the best "Pokemon" game for consoles. :p :p

Gl with the final boss, your gonna need it lol.

Thanks for the tip.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is my favorite. It's story is silly and dumb, but there's a lot of fun with alot of fun mechanics.

Pandora's Tower isn't really a JRPG any more than zelda is a JRPG, but it has the best story and characters out of those by a lot. It's gameplay gets stale though. But This would be my 2nd choice. If story is what you want then this easily. But, if you're going to include this as "JRPG" I'd put zelda in the same category and I think both TP and SS are a lot better.

Star ocean International is  better it has japanese voices... And the English VA is aweful, some of the worst in existance. And I think the game is aweful too. But get PS3 version if you must.

Neptunia, WKC2, BD ick.

Resonance of Fate is good for about 20 hours. But doesn't evolve and actually devolves (takes away gameplay mechanics instead of giving new ones)... humor is decent, story is bad. You can dress up your characters :P. It has some really cool mechanics though.

Not on your list. Lost Odyssey, Xenoblade, Valkyria Chronicles, Both Soul's games, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Xillia (which you've played) are good.

Lost Odyssey on the 360.

As a veteran jrpg player I enjoyed this game.
It has an unique and brilliant story feature/mode.

Of those you listed I'd reccomend:
The Last Story

Resonance of Fate

Eternal Sonata (PS3)

Pandora's Tower [This is more of a Castlevania-esque action/adventure game, by the way.]

Blue Dragon

Rune Factory Frontier

Only played two of the games mentioned on your list; FF XIII-2 and Eternal Sonata. FF XIII-2 is pretty good. Gameplay is fun and is well worth a play-through. Eternal Sonata, on the other hand, I couldn't get along with. Stopped playing the game after a few hours. I don't know if it was the story, gameplay or whatever.. it didn't click with me.

Oh, how about Ni no Kuni? That's what currently playing atm and its great so far (about 11 hours in).

I already have it and ya its really good, fingers crossed we get a sequel.

Resonance of Fate

Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Is there a difference between PS3 and 360 versions?)

Hyperdimension Neptunia (Mk2.)

White Knight Chronicles 2

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny

I've only played these titles.

I didn't like Resonance of Fate, Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2, or Rune Factory Tides of Destiny.

Star Ocean the Last Hope I liked the battle system somewhat, but the story was boring with unlikable characters, and the game progression was extremely slow.

White Knight Chronicles 2 is the best of them in my opinion.  The storyline might be cliche, but it didn't suck and it wasn't boring.  The gameplay was diverse enough to where it was actually a bit enjoyable.  Each weapon basically amounts to a class and enemies are weak against certain attack, slash, thrust, or bash attack types, or a magic element.  The further you get the more skills you'll acquire for your weapon or skills for white and black magic.  Status effect skills, area attacks, etc.  To me, the game felt like playing an ATB version of Phantasy Star Online.  The problem with this game is there aren't too many enemy types and after getting half way through the game, completing White Knight Chronicles 1 story, White Knight Chronicles 2 is pretty much playing through the whole first game backwards.  On White Knight Chronicles 2 storyline, you'll also have atleast one weapon mastered for each character so other than getting better weapons, the progression feels like it ends and other than increased attack power from better weapons, it doesn't feel as if you actually get characters that can do anymore than they could at the beginning.  This is atleast 25-30 hours in when WKC2 starts though.

I have played all of them but The Last Story, Hyperdimension Neptunia and Pandoras tower.

Resonance of Fate is pretty good. and FF13-2 was better than 13 I thought.

All of the others disappointed. I also think the Ps3 got the better versions of both SO4 and ES due to coming out later and having extra content.

u ever play : lost odyssey ? if not then forget everything else on the list and play only that, because its what a rpg should be in that a complete package. the story, music, bonus content, gameplay, characters its just so well done. :)
