I have a Surface pro and I put steam on it. I have been playing Skyrim and sim city just fine. I have an HDMI output and watch movies and have played a games on it. I have other devices for that right now. I am not sure if we will see enough of a jump this year, but I would guess that the Surface 3 that comes out at the end of next year will be pretty close.
The thing that people should fear more for consoles is that they are both now x86. Now, any game can easily be ported to Windows(especially XB1 games) So, within 3 years when the PS360 support is basically gone, a lot of the games will be PC and PS4 or PC and XB1. The real need for the consoles will only diminsh progressively from there.
