Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony has no Plans to release PS Vita TV in US and Europe

Sony has no plans to release its newly announced PlayStation Vita TV streaming device in the United States or Europe, at least not yet, president and group CEO Andrew House has said.

According to a report from Nikkei's Tech On blog, House told a group of journalists following Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show event this week that the PS Vita TV will release first in Asian markets including Japan, China, and South Korea.

Western markets will be left out, though no rationale was provided.

Also in the interview, House said the Gaikai-powered streaming service in the works for the PlayStation 4 could "technically" be supported on the PS Vita TV.

"Therefore, SCE is considering providing PS3 games to the PS Vita TV by using the service in the future," House said.

The Apple TV-style device measures 6.5x10.5cm and connects to a television, with slots for players to insert their PS Vita game cards. The hardware will also beam games remotely to other televisions within the home, as well as work in conjunction with streaming video services such as Hulu.

The PS Vita TV will allow owners to play PSP, original PlayStation, and PS Vita games directly on their televisions. The system will also work with PlayStation 4's Remote Play feature.

The device will launch in Japan on November 14 for ¥9,480 (around $95), and will also be available in a bundle that includes a PS Vita TV, DualShock 3 controller, and 8GB Vita Memory Card.

Earlier this week, Sony published a full list of supported titles for the PS Vita TV.

Hopefully it comes sometime next year, thats when I was planning on getting it anyway

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I'll hold out hope. If nothing is said a year from now I'll be worried.

This is one problem with Sony for me. They announce something that seems to be appealing to many playstation gamers worldwide, yet they don't have any plans to release it worldwide(yet). The VitaTV being able to stream ps4 games to a separate TV is an amazing selling point I think. It's gonna release in Japan on November 14th the day before ps4 releases in NA, but it's not gonna be available in NA. Blows my mind sometimes what goes through sony's "head".  But I do think it will come out in NA and EU at some point though.

Hmm...Oh well. But I think it will be soon. My Walmart is picking up Vita support quickly now that the price dropped. It used to only have 3 games on the shelves, now they have 4. Little steps, but things are looking up.

OHHH SNAP!!!!  4 games, whoop whoop. Vita is saved! :-p

Maybe they are testing the waters in Japan first. Sony does have a bad rep of announcing products and features, but not fully supporting them or the idea behind it. I wanted to get one of these for remote play on the PS4 to other rooms. Maybe Sony thinks we are rich enough to buy other PS4 for every room.

I want Vita to take off so bad, so that Sega will localize their PSP and Vita games!

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

I actually hope this turns out to be a good thing, get an upgraded one next year that supports 1080p and more games compatible using the DS4 touch pad.

No, they stated they were just occupied releasing this in Japan "First", so saying No plan to release it outside doesn't make sense to me.
