Mighty No. 9 is not called the new Mega Man, but it should be

Keiji Inafune has assembled an all-star team of developers to bring forward what is described as a spiritual successor to Mega Man. The side-scrolling shooter recently went up on Kickstarter, and it’s already brought in nearly half of it’s goal in the mere hours that the campaign has been active.

The game is called Might No. 9, and it’s described as an “all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8 and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing.

There’s little doubt that this Kickstarter project will be funded, and so, the game should release in 2015 on PC. Furthermore, if the campaign reaches of $2.5 million tally, it will see a release on consoles like the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. Inafune has assembled an all-star team for the project, including some on the development team that worked on previous Mega Man games.

Here’s a little bit about Mighty No. 9 from the game’s Kickstarter Page:

“You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!”

From the character design down to the actual progression system, this is sounding like the modern Mega Man game that many have been clamoring for. It’s just not called Mega Man.

I think that was pretty obvious to anyone whose been to the kickstarter page. Keiji has not really been subtle about this...

No offense, but this is a pointless article. Mighty Number is a spiritual recreation of Mega Man that aims to do 2 things. Bring back and Mega Man and proves his worth to CAPCOM.

Obviously yes... This is Mega Man

This game makes me wonder whether I even care about Mega Man any more. Capcom sure doesn't.

Even if Capcom got right on making a new Mega Man game, would it be as good as this? Doubtful.

This is the sort of game that blurs the line between new IP and recurring franchise that keeps things fresh. If a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, this is Mega Man by any other name if I've ever seen it.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing the comparison.

A very uninspired ripoff of the most overdone series of all time.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It is made from the creator of Mega Man....

Anyways he did this more than likely because Capcom has rights to ownership and wont do anything with Mega Man.

Jumpout

OT: This game looks beautiful, and hopefully it uses the same kinda aspects as X with the upgrade system

?????

Wat o.O? I dont get it.

his name's Jump In. Now he's Jump Out after you told him.

This looks really cool, but man, I hate Kickstarters that are years out from actually getting a return. I'll just buy it when it actually releases.

It looks great and the Kickstarter is doing really well so far too.

It's already 2/3 of the way there and it's only been 2 days.
