Dont waste your money on the 12gb PS3, buy one with a hard drive or you will fill that 12 gb in days/weeks.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

That's true. I just looked up that it'll only hold a few games. Can one add an external HDD drive? I would be willing to buy an extra one if I end up going the PS3 route.
well PS3 has a lot of great games. Uncharte, killzone, littlebigplanet, The last of us. but also you should consider console exclusives such as red dead redemption (and currently) GTA5. also, there are some great indie games on the PS store like journey and flower. PS+ could also save you ALOT of money on games, so you should take that into consideration too

I know you can change the internal hard-drive to anything you want; you just need a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive (used in most laptops). I upgraded my 40GB PS3 drive to a 500GB.
This article says the 12GB also supports external storage via USB.
As for which to get: the obvious answer to me seems to be the older system with more, cheaper games (PS3). But if there's something you desperately want for Wii-U, then go for it. Personally, I think there'd be plenty to tide you over on PS3 until you got enough money to buy a Wii-U; but it's up to you.
The amount of great games out there for the PS3 is staggering. If you've never had one then I'd suggest you get one over all the next gen systems. The library is just immense and it's actually still growing, plus a lot of the next gen games are still showing up with current gen versions. I don't know what genres you like but I have little doubt there games on the PS3 that meet your preferences.
Was going to say ps3 than i read your post so i say WiiU. but the ps3 is a great choice, either way you will be happy :)
PS3 games are more numerous and largely cheaper at this point, so it'd be more bang for your buck. But like others have pointed out, beware the proposed $199 model.
