I think if they were planning to make a new model this makes more sense than making a slim. Making a slim would just put them in the same position as before, competing with smartphones and 3ds. Becoming a tablet gives it more reason to be bought (a tablet for gaming) where the only direct competitor is the very expensive Razor Naga. It would need a larger focus on apps, since people expect that from a tablet in general, so I think app dedicated ram makes sense.
I dunno about a 960x540 resolution "tablet" though, even the cheapo Android tablets are 1280x720.
This would only mean that the price shall remain 250$ for the new model if not higher anyways..

If it doesn't fit in your pocket. It will be left at home most of the time. People are going to opt the space to their phone. I can't even carry my 3ds with me. My wallet and iPod Touch use both pockets. Don't sugest the rear pants pockets. Unless you don't mind stuff falling out on the train. |
Dedicated gaming handhelds don't fit in pockets anyway.
Hmmm... I dont think the size of the handheld or even the RAM is the issue as to why the vita is not selling... I think its because... oh idk... a huge lack of quality games...
One would think Sony would focus on getting more games out before redesigning the thing but if this rumor is true... I would facepalm so hard
They can literately spend the money they are spending on redesigning the handheld to make more games... We don't need a new vita, it already wins in terms of build quality against the 3ds even though nintendo does have a record of their hardware not dying... We need games to play that are exclusive and over 7.5 review rating

Vita's problems aren't games to be honest. The PSP sold great out of the gates and it's not like that had the greatest library every either.
The Vita just ran into the smartphone/tablet brick wall. Anyone who can't admit that is in deep denial, IMO.
What's left of the handheld gaming device business is basically eaten up by Nintendo.

That's an issue that affects both Sony and Nintendo. The difference is that Nintendo was far more aggressive about doing something about it, in terms of both pricing and software. Indeed, even at $250, having SD support and built in memory would've given the 3DS a price advantage regardless.
The shrinking dedicated handheld market is just one of many problems plaguing the Vita. Sony could've gotten more market share had they not priced themselves out.

So something like a table? Hm, sounds interesting. It will pick my attention, that and those small localized games like the Ys' or something which looks good.
