Nintendo only announce games getting release in the next 6 to 12 months.

They've been doing this for the past many months on reporting their own games.

That's funny, because DK, Wii Fit U, Smash and Mario Kart will all be released over a year since their announcements. And who actually knows when X and Bayonetta will come out. In fact pretty much their entire exclusive line up could have a gap of 1 year between announcement and release.

Now those XB1 and PS4 exclusives? MS havn't announced 'anything' that is 2015 or later. Just 2013 and 2014 line ups.

Try again.

DK was announced in June and coming in Feb, Mario Kart was mentioned but not officially shown until June and coming in Spring.

There are some exceptions but Nintendo has been trying to announce games not so far from release lately. 3D World, Wind Waker HD, Link Between Worlds, Pokemon X/Y, Mario Party, Kirby, Mario Golf, Yoshi New Island, Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors are all games releasing less than a year after being announced

Do you think Nintendo will announce a slew of games for he holiday this E3? I very much doubt it. Look at what they announced at E3 2013 and look at what they released.

But even so, MS and Sony will have stuff too. The library for XB1/PS4 is going to shift dramatically in their favour with less than a year on the market.

My god, am I turning into a type of inverse John Lucas?! It’s fine that you had one single idea but the fashion of the response made my arguments and points seem like something they weren’t, I would never take it upon myself to summarize in this fashion, wording my interpreted observation and posting it as the actual meaning of someone else. This is something John Lucas is more prone to doing and should be avoided

PS: I tried to keep it somewhat short, sorry if I digress.

I like your comments and you aren't like John Lucas at all. You write a lot (I honestly think you could be more concise), you broke my post into small pieces and digressed on each of them but you also found a way to get to the main idea. Content wise, I think I don't need to tell you how different you are from John Lucas.

And you don't have to feel sorry for taking the time to write such a long and informative post to address my points. However, I'm not as willing to write very long posts so I have a hard task at hands since now I need to pick the right sentences to reply in order to address all your points.

[from 2nd paragraph to 13th paragraph]

(starts at "Microsoft becoming dangerous as monopolists..." and ends at "...Overall though, these are petty concerns compared to the big dawgs of unseemly business ethics in the industry. ")

Your comments support my "ranking" of the 4 players. And Sony getting cocky is pretty much harmless to the gamer, since it means bad investments from Sony and the gamer barely sharing those losses (once we have Xbox and Wii right there as feasible options, Sony got the message). Perhaps paying 600 euros for a PS3 was the gamer's ultimate price for Sony's arrogance but, the way I see it, PS3 was always the less expensive of all 3 (considering online, Xbox becomes much more expensive ; considering accessories and game prices, Wii becomes the most expensive of them). That's why I would say only Sony paid for their own sins. Much different is when Nintendo gets the leadership (we would rather beg for the cocky Sony).

Mummelmann said:

Less variety and less competition, plain and simple. Nintendo would never succeed in the same way and to the same degree as a 3rd party and the overall quality of their software would dwindle in my opinion, as well as lose relevance.

Now look at the bright side: the millions of Mario's sold turned into millions in other platformers (which innovate and take the risk), the millions of Wii Sports/Play going to many arcade games from devs that spend what they earn (that segment would strive like never before), the millons of Wii Fit/Music going to My Fitness Couch and Just Dance ("Ubisoft's finantial departments", if you understand what I mean), etc.

Then my conclusion is the opposite of yours: more variety, more competition. Let's take this assumption to the extreme: if Nintendo disappeared from the market tomorrow, what would happen? I big black-hole would take Nintendo's fans wealth at once? I don't think so. Even at NES times...if that console has never existed many claim the videogaming industry wouldn't be here today. Not my view. We could be much better than we are now. We just don't know who would be the saviour of the industry, how would that company behave compared to Nintendo. Would that company really exist? Absolutely.

So, do you still think Sony vs Microsoft vs Valve is about less variety and less competition than what we have nowadays?

Mummelmann said:

God no, and I never stated such a thing, that would be a recipe for disaster. This seems like a very polarizing argument on your end, if I’m honest.

Look at what you said: "And for that reason, it is equally silly to want Nintendo to go away from the market, just as it is silly to want MS and Sony to go away, the more players the more potential for variation and lack of consumer shackles.". I don't want many players. I think 3 is more than enough and 2 is preferable if the 3rd one is mostly focused on keeping the gamer's money.

The overall Sony platform and Microsoft platform is very similar, especially in hardware. Software is also taking aim at more or less the same demographics and market segments. Forza – Gran Turismo, Titanfall – Destiny, Halo – Killzone, to name a few, they set up games with very similar frame and mechanics and appeal to directly counter the competition rather than shift focus and attempt to compete outside these arbitrary set parameters. Not to mention that nearly all 3rd party titles are available on both platforms. The new IP’s are often built on existing concepts and mechanics and almost invariably sport clichés and lack of depth, the ones do actually stand out are rather the exception than the rule here.

[following 5 paragraphs]

1 - You are talking about sameness between Sony and Microsoft, not Sony or Microsoft internally (which was what I had understood).

2 - In my opinion, there's nothing wrong at being similar in hardware.

3 - Sony and Microsoft being similar software wise is Microsoft attempting to copycat Sony. So I challenge you to focus on Sony and tell what is the sameness you see there internally.

4 - Sony didn't attempt to "set up games with very similar frame and mechanics and appeal to directly counter the competition" when they made Ico, Shadow Of the Colossus, The Getaway, This Is Football, Destruction Derby, MotorStorm, Starhawk, Eye Of Judgment, LittleBigPlanet, Flower, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2, etc. These are quite original games and eventually gaming leaps, some being innovative in details and others being wholly innovative (out-of-the-box titles).

5 - I acknowlede now we don't have the same significance of creative titles as we had in the 80's and 90's. But that's because videogaming is less emergent now. The industry is finding its routes regardless the huge potential it still has in other areas. Look at any other entertainment sector and you will find the same thing. For example, the rock music in the 80's was a novelty like there is no other these days. Is Music falling into a "sameness" trend? I don't think so.

Wanting a company one likes to prosper is not selfish, in my opinion. I take issue with people who want their favorites to succeed at the expense of others though, which a lot of people, if not most, in here and otherwise, actually want.

Well, the difference is that they're doing it within the gaming boundaries while I'm doing it with TV fans for example. Money/wealth is limited in this world so other sectors will have to lose if the videogaming is meant to win (for example, Sony to charge more on TVs in order to invest on gaming development). TV fans could wish the opposite and then I would be hurt as a gamer. I'm being as selfish as those you criticize, but in a different way.

Mummelmann said:

I don’t subscribe to the tired adage that one should focus solely on the biggest problems and ignore the smaller ones

Neither do I. But my mind can't comprise Nintendo's lack of merit when I think about the world companies as a whole (which I have to if I want to address the issue). Oil companies make billions by simply extracting a natural resource from the land (merit/evolution in the process, not in the product specification where the talent and risk taking is most needed). Similar thing about remaining energy companies. Banks are also the same but even worse: they just buy/sell with speculation, there is no real work and they eventually heavily harm entire societies when go incompetently bankrupt. No real value-added contributions in retailers for the same reasons. Marketing companies and advertising channels are also most of the times adding zero-value (when they promote company X and the result is that company Y loses what company X earns). I konw that this is already about politics. But the fact is, when I think about which companies are really doing something for me or for others, the percentage is awfully low (seeing it by business volume). Most of the world's profits are just on the wrong hands and Nintendo is surprisingly on the "good side".

Maybe I'm sounding like a leftist too but actually my views came from very simple and rather capitalist axioms like "who works much should earn much, who works little should earn little and who works nothing should earn nothing". Then who rents houses or has financial income would earn nothing and there would be no heritages...and bang, I seem a leftist, which I'm not.

I already posted a link in my short response. Microsoft’s list is quite long but not as “bad” as Nintendo’s in my opinion

Microsoft Game Division's list is quite short then. What about Sony Game Division? I think you're trying to avoid saying Nintendo is definitely the worst of them because of your many earlier posts about Nintendo just not being better than Sony and Microsoft (that's a very defensive position you can ever stand for). I know that's the conclusion you want to take because otherwise your mega posts wouldn't seem balanced in a thread named "Nintendo & Wii U Finish The REVOLUTION" but I also know that's not what you heartly believe. I fear no fanboys and neither should you. Doesn't the truth need to be published even if most of people wouldn't understand it?

Where is JL?!! What is his opinion on XB1 and PS4 sales???

Disappointed after all this time we still don't have an actual plan as to how WiiU is going to start selling better and PS4/XB1 selling awful.

JL really is relying on pure luck for it to happen so he can say 'I told you so'.

I don't believe he has any idea how it will happen.

Because it can't, obviously.

He'll probably say something like "launches don't mean anything" and that "true gamers will buy the WiiU" and then he'll go on about a blue ocean or something.

I think we can all agree on these statements.

But I personally believe that delays will hold guaratee sells back for several months, to actually start happening.

I think this is a last ditch attempt to hang on to any hope of WiiU winning.

There is nothing to suggest there will be delays, not until they happen.

Launches are fickle, look at 3DS & PS2.

PS2 sold 150 million in the first 30 days, and something like 50 million in the last many years since.

The PS4 is a PlayStation (look at first 3 years of PS3 vs. first 30 days of PS2)

I recommend not predicting anything about PS anything. (also look at PSP & Vita)
