Forums - Gaming Discussion - UNITY - Nintendo & Wii U Finish The REVOLUTION

As a longtime subscriber to Malstrom on Wordpress, I will say he is not far off from what I believe is wrong with the company. I also like what I'm hearing what JL has to say as well.

How predictable, JL ignores talking about his figures.

Here are some cold hard figures for you JL.

12 months+ WiiU sold 150k in the UK

In less than 5 weeks the PS4 has sold 530k, and the Xbox One 364k.

Just let that sink in for a second

In the US, PS4 and XB1 will (have already) taken over WiiU for end of 2013.

Basically it's the million in Japan that is keeping WiiU ahead.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ps4-outsold-xbox-one-by-166-000-consoles-in-uk-last-year/0126321

That's an interesting overview although it isn't a fair comparison between consoles, once WiiU is out for over 1 year while the other two have just started. Here is a fairer comparison: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=174878&page=1

Using the UK as a hallmark is just a way to highlight the wii u's performance at it's lowest.

Even if the wii u is losing in the UK to the xbone and PS4, in the far larger and more important European market it is holding it's own against a brand new xbox one which is easily available in that region. Based on vgcharts last sales chart the xbone is was only just ahead in Europe, regardless of the UK sales.

You are quoting a link that has actually a fair comparison between the 3 consoles regarding the 2 main regions (not just the UK) in which they all were already launched. So I don't know why are you saying such thing. Open my link, see the charts and then tell me your impressions about the performance of the 3 consoles. Then, between John Lucas and Seece, please tell me who do you think is being realistic and who is pulling the wool over our eyes?

Prediction made in 14/01/2014 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 100M      XOne: 70M      WiiU: 25M

Prediction made in 01/04/2016 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 100M      XOne: 50M      WiiU: 18M

Prediction made in 15/04/2017 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 90M      XOne: 40M      WiiU: 15M      Switch: 20M

Prediction made in 24/03/2018 for 31/12/2020:      PS4: 110M      XOne: 50M      WiiU: 14M      Switch: 65M

There is no point discounting UK, those are the lifetime figures we have so (as well as US) so we're going to use them, where are the ones for Europe? Exactly.

The only place WiiU won't be third this gen is Japan.

John Lucas, a lot of this is great, but I wish you would refrain from the personal jabs as well. It's not really part of the argument how cynical Mummelmann might be nor your analysis of it.

That said, strong comeback can't wait for the continuation. To the rest of you, no matter what you think about the topic at hand, does it not peak your interest a little bit extra when you see the last porter was Johnlucas?

I have to say, again he's put forward an interesting observation in contrasting Nintendo as a toy company making tech and the other two as tech companies making a toy. I also enjoy the thinking around why there are so many playing card references in Nintendo games. Good observation and an interesting thought. Hopefully the answer also puts to rest the claim of trying to frame the dabate and the cult of Lucas references people keep making. None of that is based on very solid reasoning in my opinion.

Look who's back! After conveniently ignoring my rebuttal and taking a pause (just in case...) you come back here to praise John Lucas once again. I tried very hard to understand what kind of person are you and that's what I did with the last conversation I had with you. Your replies and silences made me realize that your priority is rhetorical speach (over informative discussion) and that your double-standard comments are the main vehicle for you to support Nintendo either in promoting its pros or in damage-controlling its cons.

I made it very clear to you not to expect a response from me. Here is the reason why: I think your level of reasoning is poor and your contributions to the discussion next to worthless. It has nothing to do with my support for or against Nintendo. I am a Nintendo only owner this generation, but I am not a Nintendo fan. I have not been emotionally invested in a videogame console since the Sega Megadrive.

My preference in this thread is very much to stay out of the discussion, I prefer to see what Mummelmann and John Lucas brings to the table. I don't want to muddy the waters. Other than that, believe what you will.

Clearly old news as far as the Internet goes but why haven't I seen it posted here despite its relevance is beyond me. http://gaminrealm.com/2013/12/30/sony-79-chance-bankrupt-2-years/

Based on vgcharts last sales chart the xbone is was only just ahead in Europe, regardless of the UK sales.

If this pattern continues wii u won't need the UK, but need to apeal more to the percentage of the other 440 million people in the EU that buy consoles.

I'd would rather push for good sales in Europe and poor sales in the UK as oppose to good sales in the UK and poor sales in Europe as is the case with XBone.

If Nintendo can achieve this they will at least be in a better place.

It's not like ignoring the UK will somehow be advantageous for the Wii U in mainland Europe.  Tastes in games are relatively similar across the continent.  Improving sales in the UK won't magically give it poor sales in Europe.

Also, the UK isn't really the Wii U at its lowest.  In 2012 the Wii U's market share in the UK was equal to that in Germany, and only behind France among the countries Nintendo gave data on.  Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, and Belgium all saw the Wii U with lower market shares.  For the first quarter of calendar 2013 Germany pulled slightly ahead while France fell back closer to the UK.  The other 4 countries were still behind the UK.  In the two quarters covering April-September the Wii U's market share in the UK was actually ahead of its market share in France.  Germany pulled further ahead, Spain and Italy were still behind, Belgium was about equal to the UK, and The Netherlands actually pulled slightly ahead.

We'll have to see what the breakdown is for the Oct-Dec quarter, but this idea that the performance of the Wii U in the UK is uniquely poor just isn't true from the data we have.  There is no logical reason for Nintendo to abandon the UK.

Thanks for pointing out the sales of the wii u in Europe. I was unaware of this and always thought that the wii u was exceptionally bad in the UK because that is the country that is always highlighted.

However the bolded bit is definitely not what I meant regardless of the fact that the information I based it on was incorrect. As for tastes in games, I don't know anything about. However because the xbox360 was very strong in the UK and less so in diferent European countries implies that as far as consoles go the UK and mainland Europe don't necessarily have the same tastes in consoles.

On everything else you said I am in agreement.

I am really sorry. I had no intention of quoting you. It was totally accidental. I had meant to quote Seece. Apologises.

I was probably doing too many things at the same time... emails, messaging  etc.,

It was posted and it's clearly complete bullshit.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Once you think the level of John Luca's resoning is high, I would be worried if you considered mine to be anything other than poor.

But I don't want to anger you anymore (I'm sorry if I did). I will let you continue as a pseudo-spectator of what the others have to say.
