John Carmack joins Oculus as chief technology officer

John Carmack has left id Software to join Oculus VR, the company making Oculus Rift.

There he will take up his new role as chief technology officer.

"The dream of VR has been simmering in the background for decades, but now, the people and technologies are finally aligning to allow it to reach the potential we imagined," commented Carmack.

I know id isn't what it used to be, but this still makes me really sad. Doesn't help that I don't think the Rift looks all that cool, either.

Carmack hasn't really churned out anything really worth while in a long time now. No great loss there I'd say.

Well, without Carmack there is no id. They were pretty much fucked anyway, but this is just depressing.

Sad but true. I just always kind of liked the thought that he might. But that dream is dead.
