French website Xboxygen.com are reporting that the Microsoft Gamescom press event will be behind closed doors. The 3 hour showcase event will take place after the Sony conference from 8pm to 11 pm. The press will be shown previews which will be reported back to the public.

Xboxygen report:

“Microsoft has confirmed an Xbox One showcase for Gamescom 2013 and we can tell you that this event will take place at 20h Tuesday, August 20 in Cologne, just after the Sonyconference will be launched at 19h French time.

Our contact told us that there is no Microsoft conference during the Gamescom and this showcase will be private. Its duration will be 3 hours (20h to 23h) and we will be there to cover the event and come back with all the details we can. See you in a few weeks to keep it all on Xboxygen!”

not surprising they wanna go after sony.

but private and behind closed doors? so no live stream?

Makes the things clear instead to try to make another whole story that ended with "Xbone 180".

So I expect some top secret leaks from the attendees.

But if they want to go after Sony, surely a live stream presentation would be better than a behind closed door event (if this rumour is true of course) :)

true, but it still gives them a chance to hear what sony has to say, before telling the journalists allowed in what to say to us

Hmm I wonder why this strategy is being used?
So we will get second hand reports about what is being shown? What about games announcements?

so for the non western EU folks this is taking place at 2pm US eastern time until 5pm eastern

the behind closed door is probably because the format of the conference is more like a big Q&A and not a big show with all the sparkles...

but anyway if it lasts 3 hours they have a lot of stuff to discuss, I'm surprise nobody actually picked up that rather than the behind closed door which way more common than a 3 hour long pre show presser event....

Should be fine, really. I look forward to some blurry photos and videos of the presentation and tweets by "journalists" which turn out to be half-true because they couldn't be bothered to let the presentator finish his statement before tweeting it
