Sony knows what they are doing from the begining with the PS4 specs. I doubt they did any mistake related to the hardware and found out (and waited) only now. Probably something like the OS is using 1.5GB instead of 1GB which is not an issue at all anyway as more than 4GB/5GB for a game is like way enough! Frankly I do

Does anyone have recent figures on RAM prices in the market? Perhaps they went up sharply.

If not, my guess is they'd announce that the CPU side will be treating the GDDR5 like DDR3 in order to prevent false positives in logic computation that GDDR can sometimes give.
