Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U's main graphical disadvantage is the lack of a studio like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica

Nintendo always wants to earn more money with cheap hardware by taking advantage of their IP's and popularity. I never seen them taking risk with the games and they always chose safe way with the games using their existing IP's and won't provide new type of gameplay experiences with different genres.

Even they won't support the system for long time which you can see from the Wii.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

In terms of game quality, yes I would put Monolith, Retro, and the Zelda team on the same level as Naughty Dog. But visually? No, I wouldn't, not now. 3D World to Uncharted? It's not even a contest.

X is about the only game even revealed for Wii U so far that looks like it's really trying to do push the visual envelope. It looks so far ahead of anything else we've seen it's crazy.

To be fair I didn't say that 3D World was pushing the visual envelope. It's obviously not. It's damn good looking (I think), but obviously games will come along, from Nintendo and their partners, that will blow it out of the water. Which was my point. And yes, I do think what Monolith, Retro and the Zelda team, etc. eventually produce will be visually comparable, as far as pushing the hardware it's on, to Naughty Dog, etc. Which was also my point.

Also while maybe not quite PUSHING the envelope, I do think Mario Kart 8 so far looks like it's really taking advantage of Wii U's power.

I hope for Nintendo's sake they do step things up, it's just that their current "don't even try to push it" attitude makes me wonder. Graphics aren't everything, but a lot of people make snap judgements based on them.

If Mario Kart 8 does turn out to be 1080p at 60fps, then I'll be impressed by it.

But the Wii U hardware is very capable of producing great looking games, what's missing is the studios who would actually do it.

I shadown edited my comment to make more clear.

"No studio will fix that disadvantage... Wii U hardware is weak... that is a fact but that was not a big issue for others consoles in the past "

When you say "great looking games" you need a time comparision... for example I think Donkey Kong Country a great looking game for 1990 but not for 1995.

Wii U can make great looking games for 2010 but not for 2014... somethink like that... great Studios won't change that.

And graphycs didn't means that the console is goor or bad... if it will have comercial success or not.

Edit - TLOU visual are outdated... great looking game for the late PS3 life but outdated for what PS4/Xbone shows... so everybody is asking a PS4 version of the game

SMGs are some of the best looking games of the 7th gen, including many PS360 games.Deal with it.

It's only a year by year thing for people like you who only see amount of pixels and textures or polygons or whatever.

People who aren't technical whores see graphics differently, in a less shallow way.

First of all, the N64, Gamecube, and SNES poke a big hole in your "always cheap hardware" claim.

And Nintendo have taken many risks. The Wii itself was an enormous risk. Games like Metroid Prime 1 & 3, Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, and Wii Sports provided boldly new gameplay experiences.

Let's wait and see how Zelda turns out - that demo looked pretty good, though I was under the impression that almost everything is prebaked. If they decide to go with that art style, that is.

Rare and Factor 5 used to serve that role, but Nintendo cut ties to both.

That is not true and you know it !

21, it wasn´t Nintendo who cut the ties, there was far, far more to it !

Nintendo sold Rare and stopped working with Factor 5. I would say that's called "cutting ties".

In the N64 days and the GameCube launch, certainly, people looked at Rare and Factor 5 to deliver the hardware showcase titles visually in the way Naughty Dog does today for the PS3.

Rare in its hey day was basically to Nintendo consoles what Naughty Dog is to the PS3 today, probably bigger actually.
