who gives a shit. do you really think the nsa are going to post up video of you dicking around in lounge on the internet. thew whole point is to catch criminals. and they only ask for vids of people labelled as suspicious. they wouldnt have time to look at random info

That is exactly the kind of submissive and conforming attitude they want in their customer. Good job on doing your part.

Your just fishing on ways to make PS4 look better. Be honest, like you even care about this which in all honesty doesn't even effect you. Unless you are under suspicion of terrorism.

MS doesn't care about this, the government does. What MS cares about is a unified instal base and targeted ads instead of random ones. Thats all. To have any malacious desire makes no sense on their part to sell more Xboxs

Would you accuse Sony of the same thing if their camera was bundled? Be real with this answer.

If you are defending these corporations who are violating your rights, your loyalty is probably a little bit too high.

What we count as "suspicious" is very different to what they see as "suspicious". Currently, it is "terrorists" who only fight as they want America to go away from their homeland and leave them be. But, in future any political opponents of the administration could be treated as "suspicious".

No need to wait for the future. Just think of some of the VIPs that already made it to the american "no-fly list": Nelson Mandela, indian movie star Shah Rukh Khan, famous singer/songwriter Cat Stevens...

That no-fly list is maintained by the "Terrorist Screening Center", so the people on that list are considered kinds of terrorists. This list has just about 10.000 names, and thus contains just the people the US considers extremely dangerous. The number of people that PRISM considers as targets and watches their every step is already ten times larger, about 100.000, and the complete "terrorist" watch list is even another 10 times larger than this. One million terrorists - makes one wonder what kinds of terrorist acts all these people actually commited.

Depends on what you're talking about.

You're right that pretty much all governments would do the same that the US government is doing if they were capable to.

The US government is no better or worse than any other government in this respect. Noam Chomsky once said something like that in political speech, "security" means that governments are secure from the citizens, and there's a lot of truth to that. If other governments are not as worse as the US government, it is mainly because they don't have the same possibilities.

This thread for example is about "Microsoft working with the NSA". And in that case, I think it's safe to say that the US is indeed the only one doing this. Just like Google, Facebook, Apple etc., Microsoft is an american country, they have to obey to US laws, no matter how evil they may be. They most probably wouldn't cooperate with the US government if they weren't forced to.

You say that but hes not the one Bringing Sony or the PS4 into this discussion ... you are. The article stated nothing about Sony and yet you bring it into this discussion to defend your point which really doesnt help your case. And if Sony was doing the same thing that MS is doing YOU ARE DAMN RIGHT i'd be hounding them about this.

But getting to the main point, here's the thing if you live in the US (and also many other civilized country's) and you hear about what Microsoft and these other company's are doing and you actually took High School US GOVERNMENT then you would know that what they are doing is ILLEGAL.
So tell me what they are doin is Justifiable without disregarding the US Constitution then I might understand it but as i see it now there is no way that MS and any other company that goes this route should be allowed to continue doing this, wheather it be as government orders or of there own free will it does NOT stop the fact that it is wrong and Illegal in these here United States. (and most likely the other civilized country's)

From what I have learn recently the US is doing it for everybody

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Yah I also heard rumors about Microsoft working closely with aliens to eradicate the human gender; this is certainly true as the internet said so :)

In all seriousness, I think all big companies (Apple, Google, Microsoft out there) are somewhat working with the NSA; it is not even a choice imo. Lately these conspiracy theories are getting a bit out of proportion, esp. the Kinect spying on you one.

Because I am saying what everybodies thinking, that with all this, MS looks worse and Sony looks better. Sony doesn't have to be mentioned at all, yet they are the direct beneficiary of all this crap.

In the end, the issue is with the government, not companies like MS complying when they order them to hand over information.
