Around the Network

Nintendo should outsource Mario. Keep the series exclusive, but outsource it to other developers as it's clear Nintendo can't make a great Mario game anymore.

Hire NIS. If Prinny 1 and 2 are any indication, NIS is a far better developing platforming titles, than Nintendo has been in the last decade. "

"And certainly we have the new Super Mario Bros. series, which is the new sidescrolling games, and those are particularly easy to play for people who are more novice gamers."

Translation. We don't know how to make good side scrollers with balanced difficulty anymore.

Lol at "openess of Galaxy games".

No, that was effectively 3D Land/World Lite before 3D Land/World existed
. Model after 64 and Sunshine instead please.

@bolded: You're right, it was - but for me that style for Mario in 3D suits the franchise better.

Super Mario 64 will forever live on as a masterpiece because of its place in gaming history but Sunshine is an example of why continuing the open world formula for 3D Mario isn't liked as much by many of the original fans. It ends up feeling more like a Mario adventure rather than a Mario platformer.

I say keep the more linear "Galaxy style" for 3D Mario and leave the 3D open world adventure structure for Zelda.

I wonder if Nintendo would have any interest in taking the Mario Sunshine formula and maybe creating a new character out of it and making a platformer series based around that type of concept (3D Donkey or Diddy Kong?).

I agree, particularly with creating a new character/IP for such a game.

This is probably why I like the original Banjo Kazooie and Conker so much; they were great games that established their series formula on N64.  Today, if Banjo was to change to the more linear Galaxy style it would likely not be as well recieved since that's not how it began.

but they do, they just don't want. In Iwata's head, Mario needs to be more and more "accessible" to sell
