It's not like DirectX 11.2 feature set can't or won't be possible to be achieved by other APIs... ¬_¬

OpenGL is never used for full price PC games, and I'm not aware of any other viable APIs.

The PS4's version of the API, for example, will have features beyond those available with DirectX 11.1.

I can tell you right now that Rage used OpenGL A LOT

Rage didn't stay full price for long lol

Also it's only because John Carmack <3 OpenGL.

That still isn't a valid argument that would make the word "never" acceptable in your sentence.

Still point stands OpenGL is used in full price games even though that portion of developers is small it is still a viable option for those that skip D3D

No one's gonna care. This is what caused 10 and 11 to fizzle out. There's just no real reason for people to go OMG I gotta buy Windows 8 over this.

That's not really accurate. Obviously if you address the hardware directly, there are plenty of card-specific features you can write on the shaders. This isn't viable on a PC.

The point of an API is a standard set of features common to all supported systems. The artificial segmentation of the DX11.2 features away from Win7 is not in the spirit of standards.

But tool kits are made available to other parties by Sony over time when they're available...

My point is that people shouldn't think that DirectX 11.2 being exclusive to Windows 8 and XBO is a big deal.

"Microsoft is clearly hoping this exclusivity will increase sales of the upcoming Xbox One console"
gl with that :D

There's a difference between a toolkit and a graphics API. The API Sony/AMD provides will be based on OpenGL.

they shouldve just went all out and made direct x12

Yes, but like you said, the API is standardized. But features can be created on top of it when you're able to code to the metal. That's where the ever evolving toolkits come into play, with their set of features updated throughout the course of the console gen.

Eh, 10 fizzled out. DirectX 11 is still thriving on PC.

How many games really use 11 the most. Especially when DX9 is still supported.
