So guys will a 1070 be enough for 1440p@60 for a few years? I don't need to absolutely max everything, I'd be okay with turning down some settings to achieve a steady 60fps, and if I'm lucky, the monitor I'll get will also have G-sync, so framerate drops won't be as noticeable.

Well?

Well... It is hard to tell what will happen in the next few years but lets say you bought a 970 at the start of the generation... So in most games that are decently optimized, the 970 does beat the ps4 Pro so far... At least as far as multiplatform games go anyway. Obviously the not so optimized games are the exceptions.

But it is hard to tell by what do you mean by "next few years." Until the ps5 comes out? Sure, until the ps5.5 comes out? Hard to tell.

3 years at least.

I'd say so if the game is decently optimized

This is why I'm also thinking of waiting on the 1080 or whatever AMD manage to pull out of their hat. The 1070 is on my mind since the 1080 is too expensive for me versus it's general performance gains. I won't be doing 1440p till next year anyways. Won't be touching 4k for another 3 years at least.

My 980 has done me pretty good so far (handles BF1 easily, Planet Coaster, not so much), though my CPU seems to be letting me down with recent titles, which is why I want to replace it early next year, as well as grab a decent speed 16gb DDR3, unless a DDR4 kit is decently cheap.

Well?

I don't even think a 1070 is enough now for 1440p60.

Just use this general rule: Only buy when you immediately need it. Buy the highest level you can afford.

SOLITUDE: AN ISOMETRIC CURIO ABOUT ESCAPISM, AND SHEPHERDING
http://www.pcgamer.com/solitude-an-isometric-curio-about-escapism-and-shepherding/
There are some wonderful games over on itch.io, and it's actually easier to find the gems, I think, than by wading through Steam's mess of bad recommendations and featured games. I cover a lot of the great freebies in the Free Games of the Week, but there are loads of games with a pricetag that obviously wouldn't fit in that regular column, including Rat King's serene-looking Solitude. It's a game about escapism, and being a shepherd, which means that somewhere a farmer is dreaming of being a game developer.

PATH OF EXILE BREACH UPDATE TO ADD INTER-DIMENSIONAL PORTALS

You won't be surprised to learn that free-to-play action RPG Path of Exile is getting another enormous update, this one adding inter-dimensional portals that transport you to a Hellish world known as the Breach. If I'm reading this correctly, they're basically the Oblivion portals from Oblivion, only with hopefully fewer scamps. (Man, scamps were annoying.) Anyhoo, developer Grinding Gear Games has detailed the Breach update here, ahead of its imminent release on December 2.

BIOWARE SAYS FAMILIAR MASS EFFECT SPECIES "CAN ALL SHOW UP" IN FUTURE GAMES
http://www.pcgamer.com/bioware-says-familiar-mass-effect-species-can-all-show-up-in-future-games/
Some of the "random tidbits about Mass Effect: Andromeda" that were recently posted over at Game Informer are pure trivia: The default male Ryder looks a bit like Casey Hudson, for instance, and your crewmate Liam has a British accent. But there are some more meaningful bits of information in there too, including the fact that not all the races from the original trilogy are going to be in Andromeda—but they might appear in later games.

MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA'S MULTIPLAYER WILL BE MORE FLUID, RESPONSIVE AND AGGRESIVE
http://www.pcgamer.com/mass-effect-andromedas-multiplayer-will-be-more-fluid-responsive-and-aggresive/
Last week we learned that while not all races from the original Mass Effect trilogy will feature in the incoming Andromeda, some of them might appear in future games. Bioware has now revealed new information about the game's multiplayer—how it works and how it'll be tied to the single player campaign.

Yeah, and without turning down some settings it already ain't enough for all games:
