Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Can Solve All Its Wii U Problems With Metroid

Hahaha, no :(

At this point a new Metroid would be a success if it even reached 1 Mil sales...

If they made  REAL 2D follow up to Super Metroid, no, it would sell far more than that.

Other M was lucky to reach a million becasue it was a steaming pile of shit. The moral of that story is NEVER let Team Ninja work on one of your franchises. They can't even get their OWN franchises right.

lol No. Just no.

I love Metroid (well, everything but Other M and Hunters), but it has NEVER been the kind of big seller to "solve all of Nintendo's problems".

I want a new, fully 2D, HD sprite based Metroid, Metroid 5 in fact. Nothing else.

But what is going to "save" the Wii U, is simply more games coming out, and better advertising. Both will be happening this fall.

a 2D? really? in a console? 2D Metroid's belongs to handheld now.

one great game does not equal a system saver. Nintendo needs to bolster their first-party lineup like they did at E3. But they also can't just stick to Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart. They need to bring back some of their other classic franchises and make them big again. I wrote a blog about the top 5 games that need to be rebooted on Wii U. If Nintendo gets these games back (Metroid is on the list but only because we really want it) they can keep their system alive for a long time. Here's the link.

In case you didn't know, I have a comic book called Guardians. I'm the writer/creator of it, and we have four issues out right now, with our fifth coming out soon!

We're also doing a Patreon right now for the comic, and I'd appreciate any and all help in getting it funded. If 56 people pledged $3 per issue, we'll be funded

Other M got 1.25 million and it was considered a failure in sales. A new Metroid, especially one with the tagline of "HD" and one that doesn't get bashed in reviews for a horrible story, would likely sell at least 2 million.

That depends on how much the Wii U sells and how big the install base is when Metroid U releases. I wouldn't say that it selling at least 2 Million is "likely". Nintendo fans and the Internet try to hype up Metroid but it really is near if not at the bottom of the Nintendo food-chain.

I think Nintendo needs a fresh new IP, maybe a real Rpg, those seem to do pretty well on Nintendo systems. X is nice, and I cant wait to see what SMT x FE looks like, but I want to see a Next gen Fire Emblem game, along with a next gen traditional jrpg along the lines of a fantasy type setting, no cartoon graphics however. I may be wishing alot, but I really think it would work. Mistwalker said they are interested in the Wii U if im correct, so maybe get them to make Lost Odyssey 2 exclusive on Wii U?

It would shut up the haters, but at the risk of not moving many units...

A new Metroid certainly won't be released until late 2015 at the earliest now, which would give the Wii U two and a half more years to have its install base grow (with titles like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, Mario 3D World Super, and Zelda to boost the size of the Wii U community). Combine that with HD graphics and the fact that the Wii U will hopefully be far more "hardcore" friendly than the Wii was (on which Metroid Prime 3 sold 1.7 million), and the fact that Metroid games typically do better after a hiatus of sorts, and 2 million is well within reach, if not the bare minimum.

And Metroid is nowhere near the bottom of the Nintendo food chain. Certainly, titles such as Pokemon, Mario/Nintendo's plethora of 2D platformers, and Zelda all outsell it, but it's still far ahead of the majority of Nintendo IPs (Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Wario, Pikmin, recent Star Fox titles, F-Zero, Earthbound, etc.).

Nope. Metroid Prime was the only system seller in the franchise, and even then people bought a GC for Melee.

"Another Metroid game? Come on, Nintendo. Where are the new IPs?"

Oh yes, I forgot that we can't reason with haters. Thank Rol, their's no stopping them...

But you forgot one other thing they will say: Well we got Killzone and Halo, that's enough for us. COD and Battlefield are icing on the cake!
