So, I had posted another thread on here about my saga of clearing out my XBOX 360, and considering having it go. Well, it went. It is now gone. And when I was looking over what I wasn't playing also, I got rid of the Wii also, and the games. I got some needed money at once.
Ok, why did this happen? Well, start out with all the bad news about the XBox One. I then, as you can see in my posting history, had concern about how long content would be sustainable, and with Microsoft NOT supporting backwards compatibility, I didn't know if I could trust Microsoft for long-term interest. Add in I wasn't playing the XBox 360 now, due to some moving, and not wanting to be motivated. You also had Don Mattrick calling backwards compatibility "very backwards", and Microsoft also ended up having Game Room become an utter fiasco, and got buried and will die. I am witnessing overall content I have owned not being able to be kept, but looking at it will vanish. I amm supposed to keep up with the latest and greatest, and keep paying and keep getting it over and over and over again, in and endless cycle. And I am required to have broadband Internet also, and my games are to be in the cloud or something.
I am in my 40s. Enough is enough. I am sticking old school now. Maybe it is age and whatnot, but I just seriously don't have the patience or time, or want to spend money over and over again on this. So, the XBox 360 went, with all the digital content I had also for it, right down to lots of money on Game Room (and Indie games that won't work on the ONe). Those servers will get shut down eventually, and with it the patches (360 only supports like 4 patches at a time, and requires redownloading). So, I am out. Understand that I do also boardgaming, and I am able to see my stuff is playable 20 years from now, same with the ROM carts and emulation community. I don't care about rationalizing X hours of gameplay either. So, as of now, the XBox ONE is WAY out of the question, and it took the 360 with it also. When you need to find a job, and don't see the future, trying to get caught up and yelling "I NEED WATCH_DOGS" (or even hint at good stuff), I just have to pass. I can't keep up, sorry.
As for the Wii, it is collateral damage in this. When you get a mind to move stuff, the Wii joined in the mix here. I figured I wasn't playing it either, and also don't care much for motion control now. I don't do game parties with others, and my social gaming experience is boardgames, which is so much more rewarding on a lot of angles.
So, it is here. Yes, Microsoft done and messed things up to this much of a degree. RROD, and dropping product lines, and other things overall. Maybe I get a PS4, but not even sure now. I need a job to get one, and would need to see what they do with supporting old content through what they are doing on the cloud, if anything.
