Forums - PC Discussion - Crysis goes Platinum (Million Seller)

'In the conference call, CEO John Riccitiello singled out several EA Partners titles as contributing factors. "Rock Band, Orange Box, and Crysis all exceeded expectations," he said.

CFO Warren Jensen

Jensen frequently noted that Crysis was a strong performer, stating the game went "platinum," which likely means it sold a million units worldwide despite its initially modest performance in the US. This may be due to European territories, where the PC platform has traditionally been stronger.'

This means Crysis (released in mid November) sold 1 million copies in 45 days, until December 31. Now comparing with Far Cry:

Crysis - 1 million sold in 1.5 months.
Far Cry - 730,000 sold in 4 months, 1 million sold Lifetime.

Crysis could very well reach 2 million sold Lifetime. Great sales, especially also taking in account that GPU bundles and EA's store are not tracked in the figures.

And to take all doubts about the US PC market:

Crysis NPD: 140k (November + December)
Worldwide: 1 Million (sold to retailers, but you get the point)

This again proves that the US PC market should not be bigger than 15% of the entire PC retail market (maybe even smaller if you take in account the Asian PC market's tastes). So next time, DO NOT base your PC sales on just NPD.

Lies, lies, all a bunch of lies. Everyone knows that PC gaming is a fad and that is dead since long time ago. Crysis will be ported to the cElL because of the overly abysmal sales it got on the PC and that it will run 10x faster at 10x the resolution with 10x the detail.

On a more serious note, this is great considering the hefty requirements this game has... gonna prove that there are still geeks out there. I'm wondering this come mostly from Germany. Way to support a national developer!

I'm pretty sure Crysis will continue to sell for some time, considering two 8800ultra's with 4gb ram can not even max this game out. Of course Crytek could of made fake video's when first showing off the game, from what i have seen the game is not even close to what they showed with DX10 in their jungle scenes. But they could of been using one of those 17k computers from the future

like I said the EU/Asia is where PC gaming breeds.

It really sticks it in the ass of some fanboys who kept saying Crysis wouldn't even reach 500k lifetime. Crysis is doing over all expectations, it reached Far Cry's Lifetime sales in just 1.5 months, and should double or even triple the sales in it's Lifetime.

And the money from the GPU deals should come in handy too.

Well console lovers look at how well PC games truly do There are very few console games that can achieve 1.5 million in a month.

1-week sticky. Why? I want to rub this into the faces of all doubters.

^I wouldn't rub it in that much. EA's total PC revenue is down 30%. BTW, can anyone get results for Unreal Tournament III? I am most interested in that game's performance.

Go Crysis! I may get this game one day to see how my 7900gtx, 2gbs ddr, and Athlon X2 4200+ hold up.

It should do fine. I have LP 8600GT, 2 GB DDR2 RAM, and Intel C2D E4500 and I could run Crysis on medium.
