Most of the commentary about Xbox One (aside from the suspicions surrounding used games, "always" on internet access, and the spying Kinect) has been around how Microsoft is targeting non-gamers. My question is does anybody believe that many, or even a handful of people, will actually buy one of the next gen consoles and not use it for gaming? I just don't see it. It reminds of the Xbox 360 announcement when Microsoft talked about how a hypothetical "Skater Girl" (or some other lame moniker dreamed up by Microsoft) would buy the Xbox 360 strictly for the online community, though she would not herself play games. Its seemed totally rediculous then and never materialized. Has anything really changed? I appreciate the success of Hulu and Netflix, and others since then, but I can get that for much cheaper on Apple TV, Google TV, Rokue, etc. for $100.00 and no subscription. Is anybody going to pay $400+ for a gaming console just to do the same thing?
This isn't an article to bash Xbox One, as I think it will be a really compelling gaming machine. I think it will sell extremely successfully to gamers, and gamers will also utilize the great media features it offers. I just don't think it will ever be considered as a general media device that Microsoft is marketing it as, and I don't believe it will sell at all with non-gamers.
Thoughts?
