Forums - PC - Rome 2 pre-orders “six-times” that of last Total War game, series had 2 million sales in 2012

SEGA has announced that Total War: Rome 2 is the fastest pre-ordered Total War game to date, with over six times the number of pre-orders its first official week compared to Shogun 2. The Collector’s Edition has also pre-ordered well, with over half the available copies already sold out in the US. The firm also said Total War sales hit 2 million last year “without a major release,” to support the series. Those who pre-order the strategy title get the first DLC, The Greek States Culture Pack, free on the day of release. Rome 2 is out September 3.

Just to understand what they said, it sold 2m copies without any new releases? That is quite impressive, though I wonder what percentage of them were during Steam sales?

Anyway, pre-orders after 1 week aren't that significant. This is actually a game I pre-ordered as soon as possible, though this time only because of the stupid over the top collectors edition (50% more expensive than the Shogun 2 one)

I guess they don't count Fall of the Samurai as a major release, being a standalone expansion. Unless 23 March 2012 wasn't in the last financial year.

Financial years normally start at the end of March so no. But yes, that is kind of cheating, that probably had quite a big impact

What do you mean, you pre-ordered the game as soon as possible but yet the collector's edition is stupid?

Nice.

Total War has turned into one of SEGA's most important franchises. Deservingly so, the games are awesome. The pre-orders being so high isn't surprising. Most people will find the Roman era and location more appealing than the Shogun era, also, the first Rome is fondly remembered by most fans. Me personally to, it's the best game in the series and one of the best strategy games in existence. I'm going to get Rome II, but sadly the collector's edition is a whopping €130 ...

i like the rome series the best, i still play the original from time to time. i will have this on launch for sure.

I pre-ordered the stupid collector's edition as soon as possible, if it wasn't for that, I would have pre-ordered in August like I will for GTA IV

Well when the pre-order dlc is that substantial it's no surprise. They practically held my wallet at gunpoint when they said you get 3 factions for pre-ordering.

All right.

Do you have many collector's editions of Total War games?
