What's the big deal? If he can somehow manage to pay for it himself, why not allow him one?

There's a common opinion among many people that prisoners should suffer as much as possible and should be denied anything that they could possibly enjoy. Why all the hate? I might indeed think different if he had killed a beloved person of mine, but he didn't.

He killed several people. But that's long ago, by the time he committed the crimes most people on this site were not even born, and he's been doing a prison sentence ever since and always will, so he's already having one of the worst fates one can imagine.
