I know the COMG is not indicative of the eventual performance of Switch games, but its so weird knowing that Switch is pretty much running away with Japan. COMG is a weird chart knowing that PS4, while having a lot of preorders and games on the chart, is almost obsolete compared to Switch considering how fast Switch outsold PS4 LTD in Japan and continues to have momentum heading into 2020.

It's more a product of what games are being preordered, and the fact that more niche series are still more popular on PS4. These games are 100k+ sellers, but far past time to sell any hardware.

COMG is just a small retailer chain store in Japan with a total number of 14 stores in comparison to Geo with over 1.2k stores and Tsuyata with 1.4k stores but both of them didn't give the same precise number of preorder ranking like COMG!.

COMG is a measure of the strenghth of pre-orders and outside some super otaku games/visual novels it has been a good measuring stick of such.

The reason why it looks (on Famitsu sales threads for instance) that Nintendo is running away with Japan in terms of software is because the same games keep selling over and over, known as evergreens. If you look at software just released in 2019 for instance then PS4 and Switch are on par with eachother.

I really do not think there is any possible way PS4 and Switch 2019 released software are equal with each other, unless you're only talking about 3rd party software?

In terms of 3rd party software released in 2019 the PS4 is stomping on the Switch's head and is a massacre, and the Switch is massacring the PS4 in an even worse matter in terms of 1st party software released in 2019.

But in terms of titles released in 2019, remember PS4 has the following that all have sold more than 200k retail:

Ace Combat 7
Kingdom Hearts III
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Pro Baseball Spirits 2019
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Death Stranding
Sekiro
Persona 5 Royal

Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Days Gone, and Devil May Cry V are just under 200k

The Switch has the following that all have sold more than 200k retail.

Pokemon Sword/Shield
New Super Mario Bros Deluxe
Super Mario Maker 2
Dragon Quest XIS
Yo-kai Watch 4
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Fishing Spirits
Luigi's Mansion 3
Link's Awakening
Ring Fit Adventure

Jikkyou Power Pro Baseball and Yoshi's Crafted World are just under 200k.

Pokemon pushes it solidly in the Switch camp due to its massive force, but the lists aren't all that different.

EDIT: Forgot Ring Fit, that makes it less even than I thought. I initially thought Judge Eyes was this year but it was the end of last year.

To clarify, I was talking about sheer number of units solid, not necessarily listing how many games sold a certain amount. As you say, Pokemon alone skews it heavily in Switch's favor. (I'd also argue 3rd support isn't quite as lopsided as you indicate, at least if you strictly look at Japanese developed stuff).

KH3 alone is 800k. You'd have to add Yo-kai Watch, Fishing Spirits, and DQXIS to get that much. Then you've still got RE2 remake, AC7, MHW Iceborne, Pro Baseball Spirits, and P5R to need to offset. Pretty sure those are all Japanese developed stuff.
