Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 never made a comeback! PS3 has consistently outsold X360

When Ps3 released in 2006 the gap was something like 5.5mil world wide. When it released in Europe in March and you figured in NA and Japan gaps when the Ps3 launched the gap was 6.6mil WW. Let me be clear on this. This is the gap in NA in Nov '06 + gap in japan in Nov '06 + gap in EU in March '07.

The largest gap the 360 had on it was something close to 8mil. Now it's less than 1mil... that isn't a come back I don't know what is.

I would say going from being consistently 3rd to consistently 1st is a comeback in the truest sense

But it was selling pretty consistently more than X360 (except for its first year), so that's not making a comeback when you're maintaining your lead... It was actually just a matter of time from the beginning for the PS3 to claim the 2nd spot.

Like max said above: Adjustments changed things quite a bit. And no, it wasn't just the first year, it was the first two and then a large part of 2008 and 9. It wasn't until the slim that things changed a lot. MS had Kinect to make a bit of a comeback themselves in 2010, but that doesn't mean PS3 didn't have a comeback.

Just because VGC adjusted its numbers doesn't mean PS3 made a comeback because it suddenly sold just as well as X360; it had sold quite well all the time. The VGC adjustment didn't mean anuthing to the "real" PS3 numbers, they were, after all, adjustments.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I simply agree with the OP

A comeback would suggest a very sudden surge in sales, which we don't see for the PS3, out side of the EU launch. It sold consistently better than X360. It was just a matter of time for the PS3 to catch up to X360 looking at the sales.

That's like saying that SNES made a comeback because it was released AFTER the Genesis, but still outsold it. Did SNES make a comeback? I don't think so, I think it consistently outsold its competition, which isn't the same thing as making a comeback.

You don't know what the word asinine means and are too ignorant to look it up (your own admission). Why should I listen to your obviously flawed logic of a comeback?

yeah i agree with you, i don't really see what's different now as it was some years ago. yes wii is much weaker now compared to ps3 but not because of a ps3 comeback, because the wii started to sell really bad.

ps3 had sold maybe 8 million less as 360 but only because it had a later release. it's not a comeback if you start with 8 million behind and consitently sell little bit more. it's a comaback if you start with 8 million behind, sell much less as the competition to be 20 million behind after few years and then increase your sales dramatically to beat the other console on a weekly basis.

It made a come back as a good system to buy for its price (like the PS1 and PS2) - no one in the right mind (except for those who really want to play some of the games like God of War/GT) would of forked out $400+ dollars for the PS3.

Hell even I payed $200 for a brand spankin new PS3 l0l (Black Friday).

@OT - Saying it didnt make a comeback means you are calling it either a loser since the system is in third place or a winner by default.

I'm calling it as both a winner and a loser. A loser in the sense that it lost a lot of market share compared to PS2, but a winner that it has sold nearly as much as X360 after being released a year late. It's all about percpective.

I actually DID look it up. And calling people more or less dumb because someone doesn't agree with you actually tells more about you than about me.

Upon release the gap was 5.5mil. The largest gap was 8mil... so yeah... there goes your theory

If you looked it up, and thats what you came up with... then you didn't look it up
