Check my update to my post with more links.  Fanboyism is a more extreme form of fanhood, becaause fanboyism comes out of fanhood for something.  Such depends on the impact the said item has on a person's life.  Things like Star Trek have had a larger impact than say Pong.

And with fanboyism, videogame consoles are particularly connected to generating a very strong emotional attachment by their nature, thus fanboys who are the religious extreme form of fandom.

I said fanboyism breeds insanity 2 pages ago. You aren't following the argument that fanhood != worship.

You can be a fan without being irrational. When you worship something you can't, because you'll argue absurdities to continue your belief.

Emotional attachment is not rational.  And the extent individuals give into it, will lead to more and more elements of faith and so on.  Of course a person can be more balanced in their life, just as they can with religion also.  And what you see with fanboys fully fits the absurdities you speak of.  Again, it is more extreme version.  One can be balanced with stuff, and temper it, but as was shown, the fandom touches on the same areas as religious impulses.
