That sounds pretty good to me.

They estimated 34.0m smartphone sales for the full year and are currently at 24.9m with 2 quarters to go.

This should help them to surpass the 9m they need for the quarter.

doesnt sony's fiscal year end at march? or am i mistaken? and yes if this is true its a really good number, much higher than i would have ever thought to be honest

I guess it depends if it was in addition to, or at the expense of, other model sales?

9 or 10m phones to meet target isnt a small number but judging by this quite achieavable.

guess we will find out in when they announce the figers in a few weeks, hopefully the numbers are true. and i think it would be a combination of both. it did sell quite fast so i would assume it is attracking new comstumers, but it is also a great upgrade for older sony phones, i guess we cant know for sure until we get the numbers from sony them selfs

great, i bet many bought it because it's not only good, it's also awesome looking, something i don't understand with samsung, if they would have a galaxy which most people find good looking (most hate the look), they could be even more successful and would have killed maybe a lot of the apple sales.

i mean, i don't care how a phone looks since i only look at the display and not the back but so many people care about it.

Water-resistant? Sweet, all the possibilities under the shower....

Apparently someone threw it in curry or stew or w/e it was for a few minutes and it still worked l0l

Just why would you stew your smartphone for a few minutes?...I'm pretty sure it tasted great afterwards :D

I like one of the comments: "Great, you just ruined a perfectly good stew. You are a terrible person."

Fuck the Xperia Z, I want this stew right now!

Great news... this is my only option in the Android phones if the iPhones wasn't so great.

I really liked the commercial they put out. If I were to get a new smartphone, it's definitely a candidate.

Great news! This could be really good for Sony provided Sony markets the Xperia Z phones as their flagship device until the end of the year and doesn't release a superior phone in a few months like they usually do. But if they don't, they could really do a lot with the Xperia brand. When Samsung launched their Galaxy S1, it sales were good but not big enough to challenge the Iphone, but when the S2 came out, the brand became much more popular and the phone got lots of attention going on to sell a huge 40 million units, and then the S3 released and it had huge sales cause the Galaxy brand had established itself.

They should have also released a bare bones model with a 4 inch screen and lower specs as i can't remember the last time i had £500 at one time.

They pretty much did.
