Forums - Gaming Discussion - Disney closes LucasArts -- Star Wars 1313 cancelled.

Wow....it's like the only good thing to come out of Disney Star Wars purchase is just on the movies side of things. Everything else has been shit. The cancelling of the Critically acclaimed and commercially successful Clone Wars series, the cancelling of these games...it's just not right. I feel for everyone at LucasArts...hopefully though Disney deciding to liscence their games means we can get a KOTOR 3 from Bioware

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

aprils fools much?

so they just bought the studio a few months ago to close it?

Disney bought Lucas Films, which owned the Lucas Arts games studio, to get the Star Wars IP under its fold, and everything else Lucas did.  They have now made the decision to not have Lucas Arts around as a brand for selling videogames under.

ohhh, that makes sense then. are the games confirmed to be cancelled or could they still be in development but will be released under another brand name?

The quest now seems to acquire notable IP and then outsource to smaller studios to work on things, and hope they do sufficiently well enough with the IP.  Disney's mission now seems to acquire every single possible cultural landmark they can, and milk as much money out of it.  As it is now, it looks like they have cancelled all projects in the work and plan on spinning of the IP to studios who want to pay up, and not run much development studios stuff.  They sill have some stuff like their take on Skylanders with Disney IP project.

Maybe I'm still in denial, 'cause this would be pretty shocking, but nothing about this is mentioned on LucasArts's site. I see it is already mentioned on Wikipedia though .

Assuming it's true, it's a sad day. Played many LucasArts games over the years, many of them are amongst my all time favorites. One of them even has a very special place for me; Rebel Assault II on the Mac was the first video-game in our household during my lifetime and thus the first game I ever personally owned. It was 1995. Before that, gaming was done at my aunt's and grandmother's houses.

The end of an era indeed. LucasArts, you will be missed for all these games I played:

Star Wars (NES)
Super Star Wars
X-Wing
TIE Fighter
X-Wing versus TIE Fighter
Yoda Stories
Rebel Assault
Rebel Assault II The Hidden Empire
Dark Forces
The Phantom Menace
Pit Droids
Jedi Power Battles
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Mysteries of the Sith
Shadows of the Empire
Episode I Racer
Masters of Teras Kasi
Rogue Squadron
Rogue Squadron II Rogue Leader
Rogue Squadron III Rebel Strike
Bounty Hunter
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Academy
Galactic Battlegrounds
Knights of the Old Republic
Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
Battlefront
Battlefront II
Lethal Alliance
Revenge of the Sith
Republic Commando
Empire at War
LEGO Star Wars
LEGO Star Wars The Original Trilogy
The Force Unleashed
The Force Unleashed II

And some non-Star Wars games:

Maniac Mansion Day of the Tentacle
Sam & Max Hit the Road
Full Throttle
Outlaws
Grim Fandango
Escape from Monkey Island

Sorry for the long list guys .

Oh... i wonder what this means to Star wars the old republic? Might all be in Bioware's hands now.

I hope the people who lost their jobs land on their feet as quickly as possible, especially those with families.

1313, we hardly knew ye. Is this officially the first gen8 vaporware?

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Shocking news, and completely unexpected.

Oh, well, maybe now Ron Gilbert can make something with his old games.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

I wasn't expecting this, guess star wars 1313 is cancelled. I barelt knew anything about it though.
