Forums - Gaming Discussion - Battlefield 4 might run at 60fps on next-gen consoles, according to DICE

Gaming Everything

If you’re a Call of Duty player that has gotten used to the incredibly silky experience brought to you by a 60 frames-per-second FPS, you might be happy to hear that Battlefield 4 just might run at 60fps on consoles, according to the game’s creative director.

“It’s hard to say. The demo today, for example, on PC ran in 60fps. We’re still finding out what this engine can do and pushing the boundaries, so while I’m sitting here the people are hard at work at the studio.”

- Battlefield 4 Creative Director Lars Gustavsson

At least they aren’t ruling it out or promising something they may be unable to deliver on.

That's good. If anything, running at 60 FPS at least should be a priority for developers. Especially for FPS and fighting games where each frame counts.

We may not get it at first, but I hope in a few years time the console standard will be 60 FPS at 1080p.

Since PS4 and NextBox seems to be really close to a PC they just should port some of the graphics settings available on PC. I mean, just give the player the option to configure the game and choose what he likes the most between better fps and better graphics (at least in the single player campaign).

I think a better FPS truly matters in MP. In SP you could probably do 30 FPS but crank up the graphics to the max. But yeah an option would be nice.

i know it isnt this simple but is frame rate related more to the processing power of a console or the RAM?

Battlefield 4 will be 60fps and 720p on PS4/X720

60fps and 720p or 1080p 30fps will be standard in next gens.
New Killzone runs at 30fps 1080p

PS4 will have tablet class CPU (though 8 core one) clocked at 1,6Ghz with budget-level (even for today standards) GPU with power between Radeon 7830 and 7850.
You simply need to compromise with such hardware.
And X720 probably will be similar or even somewhat slower if leaks are true.

It won't unless they freeze it at 720p, but I'm positive they'll go for 1080p with some AA turned on.

It'll either be solid 30FPS or varying between 30 and 60.

funny, I've been saying for awhile now that PS4 (and neXtBox) have mobile series chips in them and always get blasted by a few people. Glad to see someone else knows how to understand what's in an APU.

but what of optimization?  Don't consoles get far more gaming performance out of their parts than PCs and KZ was shown over a half year before it comes out with a less powerful dev kit that had been worked with.  I guess 30fps will be ok if it's smooth like GoW or Uncharted and not like ME or Skyrim.

Is there any confirmation of BF4 on the x720? I heard it has been confirmed on the PS4 and x360. Nada on 720.  I have not even heard anything about a x720 dev kit... but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

I hope it does come to the x720 but I really doubt it would be at the same time as the others.
