Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 is #1 for hardware sales for week of March 9th!

Are the DS sales in Japan in line with MC and Famitsu or is that a guess on VGC? because 360 and DS should be discontinued there in all honesty

It has likely been on top for a while now, since it's undertracked a lot more than 3ds

How far was PS3 undertracked in NA?

137k, and WW it's undertracked by at least 1m since the last shipment update.

3DS was undertracked by about 120k, so the difference only came down to about 4k/week in the US. It looks like NPD adjustments have already been applied to VGC's global numbers as well, and the 3DS is still on top every week in February. Even if the PS3 is severely undertracked in other regions, I doubt it is by as much as 30k per week more than the 3DS, which it would have to be to overtake 3DS's Feb 16 numbers -- and the gap was double the size the week before. If PS3 has been on top, it hasn't been for more than 3 weeks.

And @OP... 3DS is not underperforming. Not outside of Europe, anyway -- assuming it's not undertracked there as well.

The fact that a 7 year old home console that's still $250 for the base model is beating a handheld in its prime at $170 is impressive. GoW should give it a little boost this week. LoU and Beyond are still going to be big and GT6 could give it a big boost. I'm looking forward to Puppeteer too. Sony definitely has the best legacy support in the industry when you look at Nintendo's last Wii year (of it being the prime console) and MS in this, it's console's last year. 2 big releases for Wii that I remember (Xenoblade and SS), and 1 for MS (Gears). PS+ will probably keep giving free games on PS3 even after its successor has been released. Gotta love that late gen support.

I believe this is the first time ever for the PS3 to be in the #1 spot (maybe when it launched in Europe way back in '07).

That's quite a statement for PS3 considering how long it's been on the market!

It's also quite a sorry statement for the three next-gen systems (3DS/Vita/WiiU) which are all underperforming (except for handhelds in Japan).

I LOL'd.

Nice. Thought the Vita would be higher, but it's doing well again this week. 3ds strong, X360 a little less so, and another Dreamcastastic week for the Wii U.

It's very disappointing to see PSP nearly beating WiiU this week. New consoles need to take off. At least PS3's successor isn't out yet and 3DS is still doing well, but WiiU continues to tank and they'll probably just have to accept it like Vita last year. They'll sustain until the holidays then have some discounts and hopefully get some good sales if they have 3d Mario or Mario Kart

PSP was withing a thousand.  That's not a good sign.  Also are those DS numbers in Japan really worth reporting?

I think you misunderstand. Dreamcastastic means not good. Dreamcast-astic. Get it? Because the Dreamcast had a great launch and sales went downhill fast? I don't blame you, it was a weak joke. :)

Let us just all assume it is a little undertracked and all be happy because all consoles are doing ok, and Video Gaming will survive!
