Shutdown Rumors For Junction Point Studios

A source in the development community is tweeting farewells to the Texas-based creators of the Epic Mickey franchise.

A recent tweet offers support for the idea that Junction Point Studios may be closing up shop. The tweet comes from RSI, Chris Roberts’ account for Roberts Space Industries. Roberts is the creator of Wing Commander, and is currently raising funds for the creation of a new space-based game called Star Citizen. It's worth noting that Chris Roberts is based in Austin, TX, the same city where Junction Point is based.

The tweet from earlier today reads: “Second 21 gun salute for a studio in 7 days. Fare-the-well Junction Point! We hope that you all find new studios soon!”

It’s not the first we’ve heard here at GI regarding rumors that Warren Spector’s development studio could be in trouble, but if Roberts’ recent tweet is to be believed, Junction Point may be gone very soon. It would be the second major studio closure in recent days, following the news that Darksiders studio Vigil has been shuttered as a result of THQ's closure.

Game Informer has contacted Disney Interactive about the rumor, but did need immediately receive a response.

Well from what the gamers and critics said of Epic Mickey 2, this isn't very unexpected. They made a unique original game with the first EM, but decided to skip on the effort and make a half-hearted sequel.

damn all cuz one game didn't do as well as its prequel! Most games do worse (in sales) anyway, i never played the game but as for a company it really sucks

Not really surprising as Disney is known for making high quality movies with a lot of profits. They tended to expect that Epic Mickey would be a big hit and it never took off.

Epic Mickey Power of Illusion 3DS - 0.19k
Epic Mickey Power of Illusion WiiU 0.08m

That is 1.34m sold across 5 games. I dont know if that is profitable or not but Im sure disney and Junction point expected more after the first epic Mickey

EDIT: I dont think Power of Illusion was done by them so ignore that part if somebody else develops them

Well, if you make bad games you sell less of them, and this is a consequences of that I guess. Still sad to see yet another studio shutting down. Hope they find other jobs!
