Microsoft just posted its quarterly financial results and sales of the Xbox have dropped by a stunning 28 percent. At that rate it won't take long for the Xbox to be completely gone. It looks likes Microsoft's idea of taking advantage of a weak company isn't working according to plan. They knew Sony was in trouble, and that it had seen better years, so they looked at Sony's profitable gaming business and decided they would drive them out of business like they drove so many companies out of business in the past. Well, congrats to Sony for hanging in there and not being an easy push over like Lotus, Novell and others who Microsoft drove out of business.
Microsoft doesn't deserve to be in the gaming business. They don't make much of a contribution, just copying Sony, selling systems cheap by relying on the hoards of coin from Windows until Sony goes out of business. This simple strategy has been successful in the past but fortunately Sony came back fighting. The gaming industry has much to thank them for holding in there and prevening another Microsoft monopoly (think Internet Explorer).
So hopefully Microsoft will have a reality check and get out of the gaming industry soon like they dropped the Zune. Within a couple of years they won't have a choice anyway.
