Forums - General Discussion - Should vgchart mods be Internet police?- Necro bans and double jeopardy as well!

I think the main problem here is that you are still using Facebook.

No users actions on another site should allow the mod team here to take action and ban that user as long as that user has not done any of the said actions on this site.
Simple as its not up to the Mod team here to do the Job of other Mod teams.
If gamespots mods or whatever site spurge was on didnt ban him from their site the mod team here at no right to ban him Simple as.
VGChartz mods only need to mod this site not others and they also should not be allowed to ban a user from this site cos of his actions on another..
Imo going by what spurge is saying he should be giving an apology from whoever the mod is that banned him and that mod should be put under the spot light for going out of his way and doing such a thing..

It wasn't i who did this alone. Someone's always in the mod chat for us to talk to, and many of us spoke over that day about what should be done. I ended up being the one who acted, but it could just as easily have been any of us, as almost all of us were in agreement.

Your just the fall guy tell the truth .

But honest Khan you mods need to re think your policys if ye feel that ye need to ban users cos of the actions on another site.

I admit i dont know the whole story, but its not a good sign when mods are banning users from their actions on another site from ages ago, not good at all imo.

Read Trasharm's thoughts on the matter. We're only doing this if 1): We can be sure of the culprits and 2): They are directly attacking a user on this site. Our scope as "internet police" only extend to matters which impact our jurisdiction. Like if an American went to Belgium to mail death threats to another American, it would fall not only under Belgian police jurisdiction, but American as well.

Well im just saying if users start getting banned here for their actions on another site, i can see vgc getting a bad rep with users..

I can kinda understand if that user is just on that site to attack someone from here, who may or may not be able to defend themselfs on said site, but then imo thats still up to the mods of that site to deal with.

Our mods just needs to take care of this site imo and leave the mods of other sites to deal with their site.

You're overestimating how often we are able to do this. This incident was the first time we've done this, and will likely be the last time for a while. There are the shoutbox incidents, but it's impossible to verify who is who on a simple shoutbox, and how many people have the kind of time to attack users off-site?

In the big picture, it's a total non-issue.

Well I still find it hard to believe that I got banned a few days for having the opinion that all FPS were the same.

OT: I agree with the Mods here Ryan, I think what happens here should stay here and not carry into peoples "real" lives. Meaning on here I am glimmer....when I turn of my computer I am back to being Jesse.

I don't think you should be allowed to jump onto another site to say "fuck you" to someone. If they have the proof about it, I say ban 'em.

Last paragraph is interesting. How do you check identity in such a case? What if someone opens an account in the name of a different user here and starts bad mouthing to cause trouble for said user?

I was interested that no action came from the aldro incident recently which had a number of users bad mouthing pretty much the entire site, the mods and 360 users.  One member, Riderz, used his own name to do it, quite open about it - no action. Other users impersonated users here to hide their identity acted like total dicks and bad mouth like crazy. Pretty vile childish stuff actually.

No moderation came because it would be impossible for the mods to determine the true identity of the suspects. Just as a user pretended to be you, another user could have pretended to be Riderz. From an outside party, the whole thing could be an intricate scheme all set up by a master Xbox fan.

Perhaps this master Xbox fan disguised himself as a Playstation fan (pretending to be Riderz). And the fake Xbox fan (the guy pretending to be Kowen) was actually a real Xbox fan who was intentionally obnoxious just to make it appear that he was actually a Playstation fan.

The mods have no way to know.
