If the report is true and dev kits only shipped late late year...theres no way it launches this year as its only 1 year to develop the launch games. That is at the same time really bad for Sony as its garanteed that the 720 is gonna launch this year (given the countdown to E3 and the fact that there have been hardly any Xbox exclusive of late).

Seems like Sony is gonna be too late to the race again... that is worrying.

wait what?

Now, make the math. Nowadays games require 2 years development time.

So for a person who knows very little about computer specs, how is the PS4 going to be in that department? Can it run games like Skyrim and Battlefield 3 on PC level graphics (ultra settings)? Also there was a rumour that next Xbox is 8 cores and 8 gb ram or something...Is that a big difference?

Funny you should mention that because I actually saw few posters speculating BF3 on Ultra should be possible with this system.

oh and 8GB ram for `durango (rumored) to be 8GB ddr3 ram. So it's slower but more. I read some comparisons between the possibilities of the two and it sounds like both are great but with different strengths. So both systems should be beasting some impressive performance :D

I certainly hope Microsoft and Sony's new consoles can run games like BF3 at max settings in their sleep. Max settings on Battlefield 3 is not nearly a high enough jump in power from low settings to justify new console hardware.

I'm not much of a big tech guy myself, so I can't make much out of these numbers. I hope they look impressive though.

Games would still be in development for them, they just wouldn't have the "first true hardware prototype devkits", but still some basic idea of what they'll be consist of. I mean, we've already seen numerous games that are clearly next gen games that have been in development for ages before that date.

I hope you're right, cause we need Sony alive in the market.

I'm not much of a big tech guy either, but I know enough to know these specs are definitely capable of what you're hoping for. A lot more if those GPUs are on the high-end of the spectrum of possibilities and if PS4 has indeed 4gb of GDDR5. Some of the first party stuff from ND, SSM and 343 is going to be unbelievable, that's for sure.

OMG PS4 is gonna be BEASTIN

What's the difference between 4GB GDDR5 and normal 4GB? Sorry if this doesn't make sense I don't know what I'm talking about.

I don't think it means what you think it is. I without a doubt could be wrong myself here but what I think it means is the more final dev kits that will be going out (alpha kits is the name I think...come on zarx where are you?) . The dev kits have been around for a while and we have had leaks on them too. The new set of dev kits are going out now for both the next ps and xbox
