Forums - Nintendo Discussion - With the help of the Ocarina 3D remake, Ocarina of time retakes the top selling Zelda position from Twilight Princess!

Twilight Princess was a big boring disappointment, I wouldn't had bought it if I would have known.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Ever think that maybe some people chose to go for 3D OOT instead of SS? Look at their release times. Might have the close release of OOT reduced some of SS's thunder? Esp with that drop off in sales my god.

If you're going down that route, then Ocarina of Time technically lost the title to the original a couple of years ago. By VGChartz data, the original sold 6.51 million, as well as 0.89 million in Japan with the GBA re-release in 2004. You can be pretty certain that the re-releases sold more than 0.2 million in the west, putting it above OoT on N64's 7.6 million.

It's perfectly conceivable that the GBA version sold 600k outside of Japan. That would mean that, by your definition, Ocarina of Time never took the crown from Twilight Princess, because Twilight Princess never actually held it. (As Twilight Princess passed the original Legend of Zelda after Ocarina of Time passed Twilight Princess).
