5-5.5 mil. Over Nintendo... 13 11.11%

Under 5 mil. Dooooooom! 7 5.98%

The 3DS looks flat compared to DS 2006+2007.

Were there in major game releases in the first few months for DS in 2006/2007?

We actually don't have any sales figures yet for 3DS this year, that line is a "ghost line" that exists because the formulas for tracking 3DS sales are already in the chart.

Long story short, right now the 3DS reads "0" on those points; that will be replaced as data for the first 2 weeks comes in.

What an absolute FAILURE!

OT: I hope that it pops up to the 2006 line when sales get put in.

Ah yes, Pokemon. That's the golden bullet that will propel sales in the West and break the downward trajectory.  We'll see.

Yeah and the fact the 3DS is tracking behind in Japan...is actually a point to my argument, not yours.

Thanks.

I think it proves the opposite of what you were saying, since you were all doom and gloom about the 3DS in the West and suggesting that Japan is holding the console up. The 3DS is doing very well...especially for a console that's not even 2 years old?...regardless of how it compares to the DS, the fastest-selling console of all time.

And yet it compares favorably. How bout that.

If the 3DS can't even keep up with the DS at the beginning of the year, it has no hope of keeping pace for the year as a whole. The DS sold only 110k the first week of 2006, while 3DS sold 245k the first week of 2012. The 3DS should be able to build a healthy lead over the DS for the first 20 weeks... then NSMB is released, and all bets are off.

But then later on in the year Japan gets DQ and Pokemon for the 3DS. It'll be interesting to see how much these two games boost the 3DS in comparison to NSMB.

DQVII is actually coming out very soon in Japan, at the beginning of February, correlating roughly to English Training. Pokémon isn't coming until the end of the year, correlating to Diamond and Pearl. Timing-wise, the closest correlation the 3DS has this year to the early-summer release of NSMB is... Monster Hunter 4.

This is going to be VERY interesting.

Damn. Good thread. I'm positive the 3DS will sell more than 6.5 million in Japan. the 3DS is geared towards a Japanese market in 2013 with Dragon Quest VII, Monster Hunter 4 and Pokémon. And that is what is announced - damn. Furthermore, Animal Crossing will have great legs

In the NA and EUR, sales should pick up nicely as new titles are coming more frequently than ever before. In Q4 only through March we are getting Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Etrian Odyssey, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Luigi's Mansion (but I think it will be pushed back to Summer with Animal Crossing as publishers tend to release nothing in the Summer, more sales for Nintendo) - Pretty good

Sales of the 3DS WW should be upwards in the 17 million.

Edit: Double post sorry :s

Pokemon can do it, especially if they possibly bundle it.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Actually I just wasn't paying attention to the thread and posted a response to the wrong thing. I'm happy for the global increase, and for the fact it's still outpacing the DS. But I still think it should be put in context.   it's true Japan saved the 3DS this year.

I hope Pokemon does help numbers in the West and that I'm wrong.

Week 1!

DS 06 -- 109,537
3DS 13 -- 294,665

3DS is off to a stronger start than DS, as expected. No major releases this week for either console.

Week 2 preview: DS sold only 46,775. 3DS has not sold under 50k since last July, so expect it to track ahead of the DS once again. Week 2 of 2012, 3DS sold 104,385.

Week 2!

DS 06 -- 46,775
3DS 13 -- 100,501

As expected. Boooooring. Once again, no major releases this week for either console.

Week 3 preview: DS climbed to 56,992 thanks to a couple of minor releases, including Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. Without any releases, 3DS sales will continue to decline, but will likely remain above 70k next week.

The tally thus far:

DS 06 -- 156,312
3DS 13 -- 395,166
