Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which will have a price drop first? WiiU or Vita

Vita -- Price drop in March 2013.

Wii U -- Price drop in June/July 2013.

Both will be $50 reductions.

Wii U sales will collapse now that Christmas/launch honeymoon is over.

Unless they can pull a Mario Kart out of their hat in the next 6 months. Pikmin/Rayman doesn't cut it.

Only the Vita needs one.

Have you seen the WiiU prices in Europe?

Anyway, Vita should be first. Has it already had one in the US? Not an official one, I'm just wondering if the price stuck after those Black Friday deals.

I have, they are ridiculous. But that's not Nintendo's call for whatever crazy reason. And as the Wii U is selling just fine elsewhere and we're only a month in, it's too early to judge.

When the Wii U falls below 100k sales per week reguarly, it's price cut time (in time for the PS4/720 launch).

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Personally, I think that WiiU should have been $299 flat for basically the deluxe SKU without Nintendoland. That way people could get the color they wanted and 32gb of memory for under $300.

However, it is what it is, and it wouldn't look very good if they cut the price any earlier than the 2013 holiday season. It'd basically be another 3DS situation and you'd have a lot of disgruntled "ambassadors"... though, if that somehow meant that we'd all receive 20 free HD remasters of Gamecube and Wii's best titles, then I'm all for it. :D

Regarding the Vita, clearly it's in desperate need of a price drop, but additionally, and equally as important, it really needs a plan.

Price cut for Vita is already confirmed for this year, though the date is not specified.

I'd say there's no way in hell Wii U will cut the price before that.

Easily Vita

I agree with your Vita prediction, but disagree on your Wii U one. Even if the sales collapse (doubt it), Nintendo will opt for a different route instead of price drop, bundling or skus modifications. Also the lineup does not have a major system seller but still has a few good supporters that can help to stabilize the sales during the next 6 months, Rayman, Pikmin 3, Lego City and The Wonderful 101.

Vita (Or at least I hope sony finally gives it a price reduction, sheesh.)

The Wii U doesn't need it.

Vita.
Mobile tech moves very fast so by the time they cut the price they shouldn't be making much more of a loss than they were at launch, who knows if they are even profitable right now...
