No doubt.
It wouldn't have increased the supply so no it wouldn't have mattered.
Tease.

you been living under a rock or sumat? its those exlusives that closed the gap down from 10 million! if microsoft made some effort in that department maybe they'd be 20 million ahead now, instead a ps3 takeover is imminent. you quite obviously have no idea what your talking about. |
What closed the gap was Japan. The general population in NA is more inclined to buy a X360 over a PS3 regardless of how many more exclusives the PS3 has. Just as the Japanese was more inclined to buy PS3s regardless of how many more exclusives the X360 had at the time. (Lost oddyssey, Star Ocean 4, Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon, Magna Carta 2, Eternal Sonata and so on..) But whereas people here will still go out and support Sony, Japan straight out denied Microsoft( and it wasn't for lack of exclusives either cause MS had them in Japan for the longest time.)

The PS3 has sold half of what the PS2 sold. No one in their right mind at the time(around PS3 launch) would tell you that the PS3 wasn't gonna lead next gen, it was just unthinkable that Sony would drop as much as they did. Exclusives are good only during a consoles initial years, as MS has proven. They look at Sony releasing exclusive after exclusive and yet failing to make a meaningful difference in sales compared to the X360. Microsoft must be asking, does Sony just not understand the market or what? In this day and age of CoD, exclusives take the back sit. Whoever can offer the best experience overall wins and while XBL is $50/y, people seem to have no problem paying up whereas how many times i hear people complaining about PS+ because they don't like the games and etc. IT'S "FREE" for FFS.. |
but why would PS3 be selling more at all now? They are still the most expensive. The only reasons I can think of is A.) people are seeing the exclusives B.) People are seeing online plays basically the same minus cross game chat (which is weird for me anyway as I would only want to talk with people I'm playing with) for $50 less and you can use all your apps without paying.

face it, its because ps3 is simply more popular around the world. always has been. thats why its sold way more than the 360 since it launched and why microsoft will do everything they can to release before sony again. they know they cant go toe to toe with sony with same release, price etc...
PS3 only sells more outside NA. Japan is the biggest contributor to this(X360 failed there) followed by strong PS2 era brand awareness in some Euro/Latin American/Asian markets. Exclusives help, sure, but you have to ask "how much" they actually help at a consoles mid-to-end life spam. MS is able to achieve similar market results with barely no exclusives.

It's not about the difference in sales that needs to be signified, but the quintessential quality Sony decided to keep up with their release of exclusives. And a reason what helped them to survive this gen despite being 3rd. When you say exclusives that only make sense in it's intial years, I would rather disagree a lot than approve if you were to relate only to sales. SOTC for PS2 was well received and so would the upcoming exclusives for PS3 in 2013. Does MS have anything apart from Gears to showcase? It's MS who needs to learn from Sony who has won the market more equally across all regions. XBL being far superior than PS+(not approved by some) can't be bringing the overall best experience.

Why so defensive?
Obviously the PS brand is more recognized around the world, but compared to the PS2 era, Sony lost significant ground. It wouldn't take much for Microsoft to win Europe coming next generation. X720 will mostly likely have a onslaught of exclusives for it's first 2-3 years, if those appeal to Euros they will give in, specially considering Sony's influence has been greatly diminished.
