Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's biggest obstacle heading into next generation

Korean Inc: Sony parlayed their failed attempt at selling to Nintendo into the greatest console of all time. They forced VHS when Beta was arguably better, bought their way into BlueRay dominance...But this time Samsung etc stole their lunch. Korea as a nation are hell bent on exporting and their favaorable exchange rate is the most fierce weapon against Sony. Sony is losing battles on all fronts. As a ex-Sony fan, I hope they focus less on gaming for a while. Bundling blueray did help PS3 sales but then Blueray players became so cheap.....they could have sold better had they just offered PS3 much cheaper.

Sony is an consumer electronics exporter first, gaming was a serendipity for them. Either spin off playstation brand as it clearly doesnt help cross sell anything Sony related, has a business model clearly different from consumer electronics, or just pull an xbox720 clone and wait for their chance after the empire is profitable again. Trying to outspend MSFT is a virtually impossible task given how weak Sony is as a company right now.

- Vita

- price

- 1-month delay for CoD DLCs

Making games not only focused on graphics and Michael Bay-scenarios.

Lol?
Probably even Gran Turismo has a better story than most of the 360 Exclusives of the last 3 years(not counting Alan Wake cause its on PC and sold like crap on the 360)
If Sony did something they created a lot of new IPs and tried a lot of new things with AAA Exclusives.
I don't see anywhere this late in the Gen new IPs like The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls.Neither did i see the same support from for example Microsoft for big, risky and expensive games like Heavy Rain.
The early years were great - I loved Kameo and stuff but after they saw ONE Franchise(CoD) being enough they stopped it completely.

Sony has Next Gen only ONE Enemy.(of course only if they aren't that retarded to sell it too high and have a weird architecture no one except Sony 1st party is understanding)
The "gaming" Community - If CoD isn't dying soon they won't stand a chance.
The only reason they aren't already far ahead of the 360 is cause of the yearly Copy+Paste release and how many 360s alone this franchise can push in the USA.Everyone can see this - 11 months a year the PS3 is crushing the 360 and then BÄM CoD month is happening > 360 is catching up and mostly is overtaking them again.ONLY CAUSE OF THAT FRANCHISE?DA FUCK "GAMING" COMMUNITY?
BUT we see a decline in sales...slowly..hopefully for Sony not too slow.
We also have seen how Sony gets a lot more 3rd Party Support in the last 2-3 years.A lot of former 3rd Party Exclusive Franchises wen't Multiplat or even favor now the PS3.
A lot of gamers look over to the library of the PS3 - You get there a lot.You get everything from every Genre.Alone if you look into the upcoming games of Next year compared to the other consoles. You get new IPs,Sequels/Prequels to known IPs and here and there probably some master pieces like Journey.
Especially the variety of games is a big plus for Sony - Microsoft has what?ANother Gears of War not even made by Epic for the WHOLE year?Great

But of course it lies in the hand of the community
If they are happy with CoD every year Sony will have a problem. But if this is changing Sony will be back to Nr1 or a least an easy Number 2 depending on how good Nintendo is doing and what they can offer over the time.

PSN+ developed great in the last year. The hack was sad and hopefully this won't happen again.
PSN+ is the best online service around. They made it into something great. They only need a better reputation but people won't forget the whole thing that fast.

Appealing to the hardcore gamer.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Sony, the Corporation (Not to be confused with Sony Computer Entertainment...who is at fault for different reasons)

For once, I think Sony might be on the right track with their recent CEO promotion. The real trick for Sony will be to continue making good decisions on those related to the products they sell. They need to make it easier for the components inside of Sony (the different divisions) to trade ideas and the like, but keep them separate from a business standpoint.

Keep the different parts of the machine running independently, but together moving the entire company forward. Sony did this masterfully during the PS1 and starting in the PS2, but then things changed towards the later part of the PS2 era and into the current PS3.

cheapo gamers

1. Financial and profitable console..
2.Hackers

I am sure online is protected but that does not include single player software. (Most profit comes from there I assume)

Sony did go extremely hard on hackers compared to the other two.

So you blame gamers then?  Why?

they need a gimmick, pushing a format won't work this time

The father of video games stated if Microsoft or Sony do not come up with some kind of innovation they will be in trouble.

Xbox 360, PS3 sells so well right now because of games and affordability.
