Forums - Gaming Discussion - Number of polygons used on characters, vehicles and environments

Yeah Square likes to take the best possible features and use it represent the whole. See these FMV graphics that is the type of graphics you get for the whole game. (***in the FMVs**)

According to Square, Lightning has 30,000 polygons. So something is fishy here. I think I'll trust Square in this cases ince absolutely no credible source was given.

I think Square is talking about the CGI version and not the ingame version... I will check... anyway 8k polygons is pretty huge for RPGs.

No, that's the ingame model.

Yeap... I watched the video... 30k triangles.

But this software count says 8,488.

Or Square Enix is saying bs or they just use a better model before the output to screen... the final model is ~8k triangles.

Others FFXIII polygon counts (with links to the count)...

Final Fantasy XIII- Lightning- 8,488 polygons
Final Fantasy XIII- Snow- 8,907 polygons
Final Fantasy XIII-summons, 16,000 for Bahamut, 5,752 and 7,938 for Shiva, 14,088 for odin, 16,016 for Brynhildr. rendered versions here.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 Lightning- 8,163 polygons, head and hair same as ff13.

With the culling during gameplay it is probably 8k, when there are cut scenes they don't have to have other processes running so they can tone down the culling and up the quality. So the model itself may have more polygons the count for in games is probably a lot lower.

Wow... that's surprising.  The models look great considering this.

I know test drive Le Mans on Dreamcast was 5 million polygons per sec.

hard to believe some of these, like finalfantasy 13 and kratos in gow 3.

Kratos have 22k polygons in the Hades scenary. And FFXII have low polygons compared to others game but the best for any RPG.

Is the Witcher 2 not an RPG now?
