If you wanna speak for numbers..

Smartphones devices shipments are increasing at a huge pace year over year ( peaking 45 %).
Tablet shipments increasing at remarkable pace year over year ( peaking 70% 2012 )
Now both have one thing in common..they were TOUCH SCREEN DEVICES.

Now touchscreen Ultrabooks/Desktops are shipping from this november .. you can imagine what is going to happen to their shipments.

It is already reported touch screen windows 8 ultra books demand are on the rise .

I REPORT... YOU DECIDE

Sure, but moving too much into tablets and mobile is probably a mistake IMO, I mean the market is just poorer in general.  You just can't do as much with ms office on a tablet, so you know that msft won't be able to demand as much from consumers want Office on a tablet.  This isn't a good move for msft....

Why can't you do as much in ms office on a tablet vs desktop, whats the difference?

You probably can, but it would be harder esp for a power user. Pads are a bit less responsive and all of the referencing to other cells, just works easier with a mouse.

having used ms office a tablet the only draw back i had was lack of a keyboard. A mouse of would not have made a difference to me. its easy to touch a cell, but hard to navigate without a keyboard.

Have you used the tablet version of Office, Thranx?

I'm just basing it off of knowledge that I don't actually know to be honest, but I have gotten msft Office certifications, and it would just seem to be harder.

yea i use it to write the schedule for my work. i usually use a pc but had to do it on the go with my girlfriends samsung tablet. Besides lack of keyboard it worked great for me. it was a little different especially since i was using it for time, it had me use a clock each time i wanted a time in a different cell, but then i realzed i could use the on screen keyboard to type the time if i manually brought the keyboard up. so it was clunky without the keyboard but lack of mouse didn't bother me.

No they dont.  They arent the full picture, they are over a short period and they are for one market.  Come back to me 12 months from release.  We can then see how Windows and Apple have further cornered their respective markets and how Google is still nowhere to be seen.

I can understand you being an enthusiastic supporter of all things Microsoft but are you really going to support the approach that Microsoft has taken with Windows 8 at least when it comes to the desktop versions?? I am fully aware of the fact that they hold the preeminent position in OS marketshare and that they are a superb software company but from time to time they make big mistakes and Windows 8 is a prime example of one. I know more than a few people in the IT support industry and the feedback for it has been overwhelmingly negative.

Now don't get me wrong for I have great respect for Microsoft and Windows 7 is the best operating system I have ever used but we should recognise Windows 8 for what it is. Suitable for touch devices but utterly bad for business and private desktop use alike. Consequently adoption will be slow and I'm confident the majority of users will stick with Windows 7 until Microsoft releases a proper successor to the superb OS that Windows 7 is.

As you can see from my profile status I fucking hate windows 8...wtf MS.

sigh wish I had the option to use windows 7
