Forums - Sony Discussion - The Last of Us Replaced Jak and Daxter 4

To be honest, while i think the last of us is very interesting, in terms of marketing it was a worse choice than Jak and daxter 4. The last of us targets essentially the same market as Uncharted.
A new Jak a daxter game would target a broader audience in a type of game Sony needs more of.

and this is exactly why i like new IPs. working in existing IPs bring "baggage" that limits a developers ability to innovate, experiment, or otherwise fullfill their vision.

every good franchise needs to die eventually.

Well that sucks.

They dropped J&D for another overly animated game? I would rather have had Jaks than Last Of Us. I dont like this current direction ND are taking with their animations. Its not scripted but its also not great gameplay. Its like Heavy Rain in every game they make. Unresponsive gameplay tat you have to wait for animations to finish before you can give your character his or her next move.

Jaks we loved you. RIP.

better than constant QTEs, you also must really hate The Walking Dead.

As much as I'm looking forward to The Last of Us, this news makes me a little sad. The hopes of more Jak & Daxter was among the primary reasons why I bought a PS3 to begin with, I'm dying to get more games in that series and it easily ranks among my top ten console series of all time.

ND: More Jak & Daxter after The Last of Us, please!

Jak is generic, dumb, half assed 'platformer' that puts a stain on a Naughty Dog name

... You're dead to me.

Jak might have been considered good or entertaining 8 years ago when industry standards were much lower and we were all still kids or teens. Today, a Jak game would get as much attention and praise as your average Ratchet game. Absolutely nowhere near attention and hype TLOU gets  even before its release. Abandoning Jak for Uncharted and TLOU was the smartest thing Naughty Dog has ever done. They got more fame, recognition, money and acclaim than they could ever dream of with a Jak game.

Crash Bandicoot, now that's a platformer Sony and ND should reconsider doing.

Ive not played The Walking Dead.

The thing is this. I dont dislike games with QTES etc. I love GOW3 for example.

But Uncharted is different and so is TLOU by the looks of things. They appear on the surface as a fluid third person game. But to much empasis ( at least for me ) is put on animations that are unbreakable or segments where control is limited. It ends up feeling laggy to me. Laggy in terms of controling the character. I understand its for cinematic reasons, but then Watchdogs looks more cinematic than any ND game this generation without the unbreakable animations and stop go gameplay.

Still plenty of people seem to like this new sort of shooter gameplay ( no I dont think UC is a platformer, the climbing parts etc are just fillers and certainly not difficult or exploratory ).

But bottom line is I would much rather a new Jaks game. Same as Id give anyting for a proper new Banjo Kazooie 3. But it seems Rare and Naughty Dog dont want to oblige.

Personally I think their reason for no Jaks is a pathetic joke. Same as Rares reason they changed Banjo 3 which they were making into Nuts and Bolts. Rare said the same thing as ND. Bollocks.

The difference is ND is actually making games that'd make a lot of people happy and Rare is making..... Kinect games.....

Like I said I appreciate that many like this new type of gameplay. I just prefer my games more responsive.

But equally many enjoy Kinect Sports even if some dont. So Rare have served a purpose for MS. But alas I hate what Rare have become this generation. Hopefully 1 of the 3 IPS Rare have been working on is a core Banjo or Killer Instinct game. But thats a different thread for a different day.
