Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft is creating a new video game franchise that 'blends the best of games and film'

VideoGamer

Microsoft is developing a new Xbox franchise "that blends the best elements of games and TV/film," a job advert for the company has revealed.

The unannounced project is described by Microsoft as being an "exciting new AAA core game," which the company hopes will be headed up by someone with both "games experience" and a "proven track record of production experience in delivering linear media (TV/film)."

"The success of Xbox has been built upon the portfolio of core games from Microsoft Studios," reads the job ad. "The Core Games Publishing team's charter is to partner with the best developers in the world to create the next great core franchises for this generation and future generations of Xbox.

"We're looking for a strong producer to join our team to help drive an innovative new effort to create a franchise that blends the best elements of games and TV/film.

"You will work with an experienced team at Microsoft Studios and with world-class development partners to contribute to the success of this exciting new AAA core game in the highly competitive and fascinating world of interactive entertainment."

The position appears to be based at Microsoft's Redmond headquarters, although it isn't clear which of Microsoft's studios is handling the game's development.

"Microsoft Studios has a number of successful core franchises: Halo, Fable, Forza Motorsport, and Gears of War," the ad continues. "Our job is to add new blood to this stable of AAA franchises. We have huge ambitions for what we want to accomplish, and we need a great producer to be able to help us get where we want to go."

Last month, it was revealed that Microsoft's Vancouver-based development studio, the recently renamed Black Tusk Studios, is working on Microsoft's "next big entertainment franchise", a new IP that the publisher hopes will be as successful as Halo.

VideoGamer.com previously discovered that Black Tusk's project was a "AAA core" action console game, presumed to be a shooter.

Whether that project is linked to today's job ad, however, remains unknown.

MS needs their own Heavy Rain type game or even Uncharted. If they can accomplish that I would be excited.

Hulu: Combat Evolved.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

All signs point towards MS having some massive new IPs for next gen

Lionhead building an MMO

Black Tusk creating "the next Halo"

Rare and Twisted Pixel both building new IPs

Now this. Cant wait for Nextbox

This is something that could work great with Kinect 2.0

So it appears that their is 2 new big franchises in the works at MSFT.  Glad to hear that. I welcome new IP's

Yeah it seems they are really gearing up for an amazing software launch with the next Xbox.

Looks like this title could be something like Heavy Rain or Uncharted.

I can't wait for the next Xbox!

Microsoft's answer to Uncharted?

They're going into next gen all guns blazing. Can't fucking wait for some reveals!

Please no Uncharted shit, I want a proper game.

Metal gear says hello

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
